Update on my daughter
Edited on Sun Feb-22-04 12:34 PM by JCMach1
While we are still waiting for the final testing results, it looks like my daughter has Staphylococus Scalded Skin Syndrome... a bad case and rather rare in a 5 year old. She is at the upper-end of the age range.

She got progressively worse during the day, but late this afternoon (after they begin treating her wounds as burns with anti-biotic cream) she seemed to stabilize.

I hope the anti-biotics (and the good karma are working).

She looks like a victim in a burn ward... with a burn over about 60-70% of her body.

Until the blistering stops and the burns begin to heal she will have to stay in the hospital. I expect that will be at least another 2-3 days. :(

Let's hope the Dr.'s have it this time and it isn't some mystery virus.

Here are some images of what I am about 95% certain she has... (not for the squeamish)

I've been thinking about your little girl since I read your post yesterday. Where do the doctors think she may have come in contact with this bacterial infection?

18. I"m glad she's doing better.
I was signing on to see how she's doing this morning. I was going to suggest a diagnosis of Staph, or some type, but they seem to have gotten there already. My sister had something similar right when she was born. Sending good thoughts your way.. :grouphug:

25. I'm glad

I have a strange ability to identify illnesses purely based on symptoms. This comes from a lifetime of hypochondria and countless hours poring over medical texts. I'm glad my storehouse of useless (to me) info could help in any way. :-)

27. Glad you have updated.
There's nothing worse than not knowing. I hope she is well and home soon.

This post helped me. The referenced link in your prior post to "fifth disease" gave me a diagnosis for my daughter. She has had this, and although it's no fun, it does go away. I've had doctor's tell me she was allergic to the sun, even though by the end of the summer, she is nicely tanned with no rash.

What a great group of people here on DU and you are one of the top!
