I just got a Nikon D80. I have it set on the highest quality setting below RAW. And even though it's a 10 meg camera, the files are only around 3 megs. What's up with that?

2. Your camera is a 10 mega pixel. |
|
Even with a small resolution you should end up with a larger file than 3 MB. http://www.dcresource.com/reviews/nikon/d80-review/

3. That's probably the compressed jpeg size |
|
If you open it up in PhotoShop, you should find the size a lot larger.

4. i love my d80. you can hold the shutter release down and it's like having a speed-winder. |

i was taking pictures for a charity golf outing the other day, and i could get off 3-4 pics in the time it took a golfer to swing and hit the ball from the time they'd start their backswing.

5. RAW mode still uses compression, albeit of exponentially higher quality. |
|
If it was truly raw, you would not get much (an uncompressed 800x600 image is 1.44MB. Now imagine what a 4000x3000 image would be... :wow: 3 vs 6MB... plus EXIF information.)
DSLRs are the way to go -- far superior D-Range...
