Poll question: Are you going to see the Mama Mia! movie?
Edited on Wed Jul-16-08 06:25 PM by LibraLiz1973
I'm all over it like a cheap suit.
I love any movie that has Abba music in it.
That's right, I said it.
Muriel's Wedding? Check. Priscilla, Queen of the Desert? Check.

3. I'll go
I love ABBA and have about 10 of their songs on my iPod. Plus I'm a HUGE fan of musicals.

But I'm going to have to go by myself; I don't know of anyone in my immediate circle who feels the same!

39. Sometimes, I bite my tongue on DU
Edited on Fri Jul-18-08 02:03 PM by Symarip
Sometimes, it's to spare feelings or other times, I realize I'm being a dick and I need to shut up.

This is not one of those times.

I may not be old enough to appreciate Disco (whatever that means) but oh lord, do I remember ABBA. My parents must've snogged to it on a regular basis because their 8 tracks were everywhere in my house. So the weeks leading up to Mamma Mia, I started hearing the sounds of a Symarip toddler past. I've been sort of curious because in the back of my mind, I swear I know all of these songs. To which, I do, just as a vague memory. So, I've been doing some youtubing lately to find out what all the buzz is about this movie and I realize two things:

1. ABBA sometimes did some things interesting musically

2. But typically, they did not and their music is pretty much complete shit

Seriously, ABBA makes Disco seem edgy, which is sort of a two punch insult since Disco is the whitebread version of Funk. They're equal to the modern day Backstreet Boys or Nsync or other pop flavor. Which leads me to wonder, just why the hell did they make a production based around their music? (Besides to rake in a shit ton of cash) I'll relay musicals aren't necessarily my cup of tea. But I do know typically within one, you need a plot and songs that reflect mood and change. All ABBA songs kind of, sort of all sound alike. Additionally, am I the only person that thinks it's pretty weird to retrofit a plot around songs already written for the radio some decades earlier? Weird.

I love Streep and even Brosnan has impressed me with some of his past work. So again, I youtubed a few clips of the movie just to make sure my assumptions were at least on the map. They were. This movie is going to suck. Big time. I'm sure my mom will like it.

50. Where's the "hell no" option?

Pierce Brosnan and Meryl Streep singing?

No. Just, no. Fuck no.

I've seen other productions, and I liked them a lot, so it's not a complaint against the movie, per se. It's the people they have in it and what they've done with it.

No.

Hell no.
