F22 Raptor wows Farnborough

Ok, ok, I know that this aircraft represents poor, perhaps even immoral, investment of taxpayer money and the evils of war and the worst aspects of the industrial/military complex and then there's the traditional flamebait subject of 'airshow' but as an engineer who once worked on Inertial Guidance systems and control systems I find this is pretty damned impressive just from a technical/engineering accomplishment perspective. In short a bit of extreme 'gee-whiz'

1. I love those fighter jets.

My office is across the street from Dobbins Air Reserve base in Marietta, GA. And I am thrilled every time I see the fighter jets fly over. I just wish I could be up there in one.

Even if they are a waste of money better spent on other things, I too can admire the engineering and design that went into it.

3. I'm right there with you

I'm particularly fond of the F-16, knew a couple guys that flew 'em. Talented guys, and amazing machines. The F-22 is a gorgeous aircraft as well. I love photographing them, especially on static displays where I can wait for the light to hit 'em just so. I've gotten some great shots of 16's over the years, and now that I can scan slides, I can start adding them to my Picasa gallery.

I do think they have a legitimate use (ie - genuine defense) but hate the way that resource and the people who fly 'em are being horribly abused by the reigning kakistocracy for deceptive and ill purposes.

And I'm a diehard geek...I have a thing for well-engineered machinery of any kind, pretty much... ;)

I'm not sure I see the utility of some of those maneuvers, but it's very impressive...
