A 14 year old local kid DIED playing "The choking game???" |
|
WHAT.THE.FUCK.COM??
I thought I had heard EVERYTHING, from "whip-its" to hoofing gasoline, but THIS shit takes the cake.
The kids are CHOKING themselves or each other for the momentary "high" from passing out. The 16 year old daughter of one of the bosses had some 14 year old friend who DIED doing this stupid shit.
My god. At least if you sniff glue you just get stupid or cancer in a few years, not immediately DEAD.
The world is getting way too weird for even me, and I used to drop acid and eat mushrooms.

People did it at least as far back as when I was in junior high/high school (late 80s/early 90s) ... Stupid, sure--but not new :)

2. People die from that sort of things all the time. |
|
Autoerotic asphyxiation is especially bad when done alone. Can you imagine what it's like for the person (usually a family member) who finds the body?
Not pleasant.

5. A guy I went to school with--son of a very prominent church elder in Dallas--died that way. |
|
He was 19, a freshman in college. It didn't take long for word to get around how he really died. Sad stuff.

7. When I was in undergrad |
|
A Chinese doctoral student was found dead in a building on campus after a holiday weekend. It was very hush-hush for a while, with no real details about the death coming out, and people were scared about the possibility of foul play. But it turned out that he had died from a case of autoerotic asphyxiation gone wrong. The lagtime in news about what had happened was due to the fact it took police more than 2 weeks to notify his next of kin in China.

8. I remember kids doing this when I was in high school. |
|
Kids do stupid stuff. They don't realize death is a lot closer than they ever think.

9. Hyperventilating was not uncommon |
|
when I was in middle school... maybe even in to high school. The most common method was to sit down and bend forward... basically putting your head between your knees... and taking about 10 really deep breaths... in and out. On the last breath you would exhale all the air you could, stop breathing, stand up and raise your arms above your head. If you did it right, within a few seconds you would pass out. I never saw anyone stay unconscious for more than 5 seconds... typically more like a second or two. When you came to, you would feel really spaced out and reality would seem distant and unfamiliar for a few seconds... you and your buddies would giggle about it... then it was someone else's turn.
We never choked each other, though.
