Did anyone buy "Let It Be...Naked?" |
|
I am a huge Beatles fan, but for some reason was not compelled to purchase this over the holiday season.
Is it worth it and is there much of a difference between the original studio recording of "Let It Be"? Which do you like better?

And no one should have been tampering with a masterpiece like "Let it Be". But, that's just my opinion

Who mixed the original release over McCartney's strenuous objections?

3. My bother said it is really interesting |

He loves the original album but also loves to tinker with what makes things work. He recommends it as a study.

The raison d'etre is "Long and Winding Road" with no strings. Of course, you can hear a similar performance on Anthology 3.
The packaging is stupid; that's my sole complaint. The "negative pictures" and the elipses in the title are pretty lame; not up to Beatles' usual incredible standards.
And they should have named it "Get Back."
I suspect that Yoko is responsible for screwing it up. She should never be anywhere near any piece of music or any recording.

It's not a bad album (how could it be? It's the Beatles!) but by now you are already familiar with every little note from the original, and even if you listen to it without the orchestration, you are still going to hear the strings, etc because they are deeply embedded in your memory.
Someone above mentioned how it's interesting to those who like to see how music is put together. As a musician, I agree with that. Unless you have a similar interest, there's little reason or need to buy this CD, IMO.

I have over 175 Beatle albums, lots more CDs. It's a great edition. The version of "Don't Let Me Down!" alone is worth it .... the whole thing is better than the released "Let It Be," which is clearly not original in any sense. If you are a Beatle fan, you'll enjoy listening to it over and over.

9. Got it for Christmas; it's good |

not fab.
The "Fly on the Wall" second CD is probably the most interesting thing. It captures the rehearsing and casual chat of the fellows in the studio. One might find it unimpressive unless you remember it was all recorded 40 years ago.

10. I bought it and liked it |

but not having a musicologist's ear, I couldn't really tell the difference that much. It's nice to hear The Long And Winding Road not burdened by Phil's overproduction, but Let It Be sounded largely the same.

11. It is clean, it sounds great, it is a pretty damn good CD |
|
Pretty much like a yucky layer of grease and grime has been washed away. The sequencing is nice, and it is now a really tight album, whereas the other was flabby and meandering.
Booklet is good, and the 2nd cd "Fly On The Wall" is a fun listen.
Well worth the 12 bux if you have it. . .skip a couple trips to McDonald's and you are there.

12. I heard it at the store. |

It sounds like a badly produced version of Let It Be. And the Beatles aren't supposed to be a raw, underproduced band. Quite frankly, it sucks; it's hyped up SHIT.
