Have you ever jumped in the rhyming circle and free-styled? |
|
This was a popular pastime when I was growing up; usually, most of the crew would beatbox and we'd go around the circle with everyone taking a turn rhyming.
Once in college, I only did it a few times including one memorable back and forth I had with this incredible rhymer. I just had a flashback to that night, and a verse I spit out (that I hadn't thought of until just now) that just cracked me the fuck up. And yes, I still think it was one of my most brilliant rhymes ever (freestyling).
Some say I'm lucky 'Cuz girls wanna fuck me But I only get the fat girls With the fat curls Drinking Diet Coke and eating "No Frills" cheese curls
So, have you ever freestyled? If not, you're missing out.

Both at animal rights thingamadoozles. One was about pit bulls, one about greyhounds.
Both were in the style of Eminem's "Collapse" and were brutal and angry.
Both got published so I can't expound on them, but they were pretty cool.

That's awesome. :patriot:
The night I just remembered: the kid I was going against was incredible. He didn't miss a beat and was so smooth and flawless (and fast). However, I got almost every single "pop" from the crowd as my rhymes were pretty f'n hilarious. We went back and forth forever, and by the end we had decided to start a band together. It never happened though, and I don't think I ever saw him again (maybe once or so at a party). Last I heard, he withdrew from UMass and was homeless or something.

3. It wasn't a battle, though. |
|
It was (in both cases) just a you're angry and someone wants to hear you rip some shit.
That was my prime. I've sadly passed that, I think.

It's been 8-9 years since I last free-styled. I'd probably suck at it now. :(

if i've free-styled with people, on my computer? obviously, it's not as hard as coming up with something in person right on the spot...but, still... :P

5. It counts, but much less |
|
:P
Every single time I did it, I was in complete panic mode up until my turn (and that includes the time between my first go, and second, and so forth). I didn't always do well, but I tried to never freeze up. I've had some bad rhyming, but I never broke my rhythm. :D

i think rhythm is more important in the long run.
same with playing piano or something, people seem to notice more if you stop playing and break your rhythm as opposed to playing a piece of music that not be so great or something. you know?
i'm new to the lounge by the way! :hi:

Not breaking the rhythm seems to count more than making great rhymes on the spot, but doing it choppy.
Welcome to DU/Lounge by the way. :hi:
