Just got my first electric bill from HydroQuebec |
|
The apartment is about 1500 sq ft, we have one of those new-fangled wall air conditioners that the s.o. runs morning noon and night (sigh), we have 3 computers that stay on all the time, and never mind the rest of the stuff we use, like TVs, DVD players, etc.
$33.
Thirty-three bucks.
:wow:

Is it hydroelectric power? Wild guess from the name. I'm paying more than that in NYC with no airconditioning in a smaller studio apartment.

Yeah, the province has 1.5 million lakes, and one of the main installations is in an ancient asteroid crater (really!).
I'm still floored by how cheap it is. In the ex-house, we'd be looking at $250-300 easy.

2. So, kedrys - I think you need to prepare for a long line of |
|
divorces and marriages - of course you can go back to your wife, eventually, but I think LOTS of DUers are gonna want to be able to move to Canada :D

I'll have to discuss it with the s.o. and the 'rents - I'm not sure they could deal with revolving spouses...

3. Our sq. ft. is double yours, our bill is triple |

We program our HVAC, don't use many lights, close off rooms, starting to replace regular bulbs w/ compact florescent. Some of this has made a difference, but we are going to have to cut more out.

10. I'm sorry to hear that |

We had to do the same in the ex-house, to little avail - and it was a huge pain in the arse.

I have a small one bedroom with a window AC, use nothing but energy saver bulbs, barely use the TV except for PS3 and Xbox 360, have one PC that stays on for about half the day, and my bill is about the same as yours. I'm in northwestern VA, serviced by Allegheny Power.

When we looked at the apartment, the landlord's rep said the power bill would be about a buck a day, but he had no idea how much gear (computers, guitars, AV, etc.) we have.
We can even sign up for balanced billing.

7. My tiny one bedroom apartment |
|
doesn't have AC, I rarely watch tv, the lights are out unless I'm in the room and I use energy saving bulbs. I run at about $50/month.
Thanks to Ralph Klein for deregulation. :grr:
