never got around to reading the Silmarillion, but I was doing some research online about something completly unrelated and ended up following one tangent to another to another and eventually getting to something about the elvish language, and following that to the origin of Sauron's name (Sauron actually means 'traitor' or 'deciever' or something like that in elvish. It's not his original name, just the one he was given on Middle-Earth) and it went from there. :P
