2. Truly. Take off about two inches from the back and about |

a half inch from the growing-out layers, slap some Paul Mitchell Apahui or Australian Miracle in the young lady's hand and take away all her hair dryers, curling irons, and whatever else she did to get her poor head so fried. I suspect she's using a straightening iron to get that weird straight "stand-out" effect. Bad move. Hair needs movement and your best best is often to go with what you've got. Don't fry, comply. If your hair wants to curl, so be it. If you have "frizz", try a silicone product or, learn the hard way and treat your scalp and hair way better with good old fashioned--fats.
Moisturizing is important! Even white girls can use Hot Six oil. I have, because when my hair gets longer, the ends frizz, and my hair got strong when I used it and it smells very nice. Or get some other hard core liquid "grease"--shy away from solids like shea buttter, which do not help your situation but can make things scary hard to comb-- and work it in. Also, use gentler shampoos. Baby shampoo. Panthenol-B shampoos seem really good that way, too. Can I say I struggled to figure out my own hair for awhile?

It was nice when I guy in a bar made fun of my hair today, and asked why it was the way it is. He didn't seem to pleased when I told him "genetics".
