Reporters are used to covering crime and talking to victims, but Fox 5's Tara Mergener ended up becoming a victim herself while on the job.
While covering the recent crime and police checkpoints in DC's Trinidad neighborhood, her purse was stolen out of their truck. The air conditioning had been broken and Tara left the window down while she was conducting interviews on the scene.
Tara felt violated and heartbroken. Inside the purse was her blackberry, her reporter credentials, keys, and pictures of her family. On a whim, she used her company phone to call her personal phone and a man picked up!
The man on the other end was actually angry that Tara's wallet only had $3 in it but later demanded $500 for the purse's return. Tara agreed to get the money and called police, expecting to file a report and never see her belongings again.
