I have a bladder infection. (Not advice-seeking, just a whine). |
|
And my lower abdomen hurts like a mother. Second time in a year. Dammit.
How's by you?

First time I had one of these, I thought my endometriosis had returned, that's how bad it hurt. And now it's back. I need to ask my doc what causes it, and how to prevent it.
In the meantime, I'm grateful for your hug!! Thanks!!

I had one last fall and it felt like a horse was kicking me in the gut, ugh. Cranberry juice really does help (something to do with the way it acidifies your urine). Hope you feel better soon.

But it will turn your pee bright screaming orange. Wear some underwear you wouldn't mind throwing away. Oh, and bleach will get rid of the stains in your toilet bowl.
And see a doc ASAP, please. Bladder infections are not only uncomfortable, but untreated they can lead to kidney infections, which can be serious. And drink oodles of water in the meantime.

20. Took some of this about 2 hours ago, and I do feel better. |
|
At first, I thought it wasn't working, but then suddenly, the pain just stopped. I just felt this "ahhh..." feeling. Thanks for recommending this!

Abdominal pain is horrible. I'm lucky that's one kind of pain I don't have. I hope you're over this infection soon.
I'm having a horrible weekend too because my pains are all ganging up on me at once. I'm not belittling your pains at all or comparing them to mind. I'm just complaining. I haven't had anyone to talk to today about feeling like hell so I feel like I've been keeping it bottled up inside. :(
I have pains in my lower back, knees, left ankle and calf, feet, right hip, shoulders, left arm, wrists, thumbs, six fingers, and right kidney. Despite the morphine it's all still there kicking my ass. It's greatly reduced, but that just means it's going to be a hellish night tonight between doses. x(
I'm supposed to be in bed right now, but I know the morphine will have worn off in two hours and what's the point of going to bed if I'm just going to wake up in pain in two hours anyway. So I'll probably wait, take my next pain pill in two hours, take my evening meds at the same time, and then get some sleep. I'm hoping to 4 hours of sleep. If I'm lucky I might get 5.
You would think that all this hot humid heat would help with pain. After all, one of the things we do to help with the pain is apply moist heat. But for some reason it doesn't work that way. Instead, this weather seems to be aggravating my pain and spreading it around more than usual. :(
That's the end of my whining. Sorry.

Can't imagine what it's like to have pain that even morphine doesn't end. I hope you're able to get some sleep. And some relief.

15. I had one on Friday that sent me to the ER |
|
the pain was brutal. Started feeling crappy last week and I thought it was my period, but the pain got progressively worse and I couldn't even drive or do anything because the pain was so bad. So I ended up going to the ER. Got a prescription of antibiotics and vicodin to take the edge off the pain. I am now feeling a bit better, but the pain is still there.
Last time I had a UTI, I used AZO and it worked, but I believe that it may have returned this time around because I didn't take any antibiotics then.
Hope you feel better though.

16. I had a urinary tract infection about 8 years ago. |
|
And if I was there with you I would hold your hand and help you walk. I would even fix you some tea. I spent Christmas that year in the bed. I hope you are alright soon

18. I really started hating the ER staff the time I was sitting waiting with |
|
one of my kids and there was a college girl there with her parents also waiting. She was there for a bladder infection and clearly in distress. It would have taken 5 minutes to get a diagnosis and give her a script, but they kept her waiting for hours! I remember her better than I remember why we were there, so you can imagine what it was like! I really hated that ER - with small kids including a toddler with asthma, we made a few visits and there were always people waiting while the staff hung around the nurses' station chatting and laughing!

21. So I called the doc this morning and I'm still waiting. The nurse said she may call in a scrip, |
|
or she may want me to come in for a urinalysis. That was at 9:00. It's 4:23 now. A couple of hours ago, the pain was excruciating!! If you had told me a UTI could be more painful than endometriosis, I'd have said you were crazy. I'd have been wrong!
So, now I just wait. ACtually, I think I may call the clinic again. If I don't hear something by 5, I'm sure nothing will happen until tomorrow. I don't understand it. The symptoms are exactly the same as I had last fall--but worse--so why not just call in a damn antibiotic?
I hate the American health care system.

|
That's why an urinalysis is so important...you want to make sure you're taking the right anti-biotic. Sorry you're feeling bad.

25. Here is the science of cranberry juice for you |
|
And no, you don't have to get special juice apparantly. Grocery store stuff does just fine. perhaps you should make this a regular beverage.. http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2008/07/080721152005.htm

The bad news is that some people are more prone to them than others. I'm one of those people.
Rules -
1. ALWAYS pee after sex. Before too, if you think of it.
2. Drink tons of water regularly.
3. At the first sign of one, break out the cranberry juice but be prepared to go pee in the doctor's cup.
4. Be aware that they can recur after a dose of antibiotics - mine tend to be pretty resistant.
5. Avoid baths when you have one but a heating pad on your tummy is nice and soothing. Beagles work as well but tend to get heavy right where it hurts. :)
Hope you feel better soon. :hi:
