Has anyone here ever broken their "pinky/little-toe?"
I don't know if I have or not, but I have broken other bones and this injury feels very similar. I did it about a week and a half ago, and it just doesn't seem to be getting any better. I'm pretty sure there is no way to put a broken little toe in a cast or anything like that, so I'm just looking for advice.

Not medical advice, or anything like that, because I know that's off limits, I'm just curious. :)

1. Repeatedly.
Both feet...the joints are now calcified.

2. I think that's sometimes called the "piss fracture".
Because one of the common ways of getting it is smashing your foot into the wall getting up to take a leak in the middle of the night.

5. LOL, that's funny. Why is it...
...that it's that seemingly useless toe that seems to get caught on and banged into everything.

3. The best idea is to see a doctor if it impedes your ability to walk.
Edited on Sun Jul-20-08 10:14 PM by VenusRising
Although, they won't do much more than tape your baby toe to the toe next to it. That's about it.

I hope it feels better soon. Walking with sore toes sucks.

8. I can walk okay....
...never really put much weight on that toe anyway, but thank you for both the concern and the total non-medical advice of what a doctor may or may not do to it if I did see one. ;)

6. Yes
and I had to have temporary pins put in until it healed. (the bone looked like the letter T)

An xray may not be a bad thing. At least you'll know if it's going to heal straight.

9. Thanks for the response...
...if I broke it, it isn't nearly as severe as what you described. Everything is still pointing the correct (was going to say "right" but I just can't bring myself to use that word these days...LOL) direction so if I did, I'm sure it is only a fracture, if anything.

7. I've broken nearly every toe in both feet.
One of them doesn't bend any more because of a break I had at some point.

32. Taping the toe is about all they would do unless it was more severe.

13. I broke mine a week ago.
Get some waterproof tape and tape it to the adjacent toe ("buddy-splint"). Ibuprofen will help, as will ice and elevation.

14. yes,
while I was rushing to accompany a friend for a cancer consult.

Boy was I embarrassed when everyone at the hospital gushed because I was limping with this purple toe (and my dear friend was the one with life-changing shit going on) ....

There was nothing to do but tape it to the next toe -- which I didn't do right away. I hardly go barefoot anymore.....

Mikita

PS my friend is a 20+ year breast cancer survivor now....

15. Just straighten it as best you can and wrap it up with medical tape.
That's all they do at the ER. My kid sister played football and had more broken toes than I can count. After the second, the ER doc told her there was no reason to come in, since it meant a long wait and medical tape isn't exactly a prescription item.

16. back around Memorial Day
I broke the middle toe on my right foot.

6 weeks later that sucker is still broke.

I want it gone! The dumbest most painful injury I've ever had.

Cut it off!

18. My friend did that so many times
she had the bones taken out of her pinky toes. (I'm not kidding, she really did).
I get a little queasy when I see them because she moves them in every possible direction.
A week and a half is not a long time to still be feeling uncomfortable. I broke my second toe once and it took a month or so to heal.:)

19. yes, i broke my pinky toe playing hacky sack
I had on sandals.

I, gracefully and athletic, performed a wonderful move to save a sack headed for the street, and a certain ruffian with doc martins on took a similar notion. My little toe paid the price in blood and marrow.

23. I've broken my pinky finger, which is almost the same thing
The doctor did not find it nearly as interesting as I did - "Yep, that's broken. Tape it to it's neighbor and don't use it for a while..."

Hope your toe feels better!

something worse, like some type of arthritis, but there is not much to be done for it if it's broken. Stay away from tight shoes, it will feel better in a few weeks.
(I bet you never pain much attention to that toe before, did you?)

28. Repeatedly
Usually by dropping something heavy on it. Unless you've got a broken bone poking through your skin, there's not much can be done about it, except tape it to the next toe so that it'll heal straight. Oh, and apply ice and keep your foot elevated to reduce the swelling.

If it doesn't start to feel considerably better soon, I'd get an X-ray though. Just to make sure nothing more serious is going on.

29. In high school
Got my pinky toe caught on something & it made a right angle to my foot. OW! Bruised up like nothing I've ever seen, but all the doctor did was buddy-wrap it. I had to wear sandals for months, too, because of the bruising.

31. Yes....and one of the side effects is.....
that if you walk around compensating and still do heavy lifting
you could throw your back out and then you'll need
physical therapy...so slow down a bit with this injury.

34. Did it just a couple of months ago
Took forever to heal and still gives me issues occassionally. Wish I had advice for you but there's really not much you can do about it. Ice, rest can help if you can do it. Tylenol reduces inflamation and pain.

 and good luck!

I wouldn't worry about it..has no use on humans any more

That is, unless you get your arms blown off in Iraq or something. Then it can become needed...
