Would you take a pay cut for a higher grade (level) job? |
|
Its the job I have wanted but I know there would be a tremendous pay cut. Plus I would be on a shift where I don't get the support that I have on the other 2 shifts. Its cut throat and very competitive and I wish decisions didn't have to be this hard. My gut is telling to past and keep my money but I know if I continue to stay in my current position, and keep my pay but sometimes pay isn't everything.
Damn why can't I just hit the lottery.

1. I guess it would depend on |
|
1) How much you can afford the pay cut and
2) How much happier you would be doing "the job you have always wanted"

with even just one person that I currently have to deal with.

If I could work with adults instead of what I call the Hello Kitty Clique, I'd give back some money.

Been there, done that. The job IS all about the Benjamins when working for the man.

But I would get a raise a couple of months after I take the job if offered. I just want to be sure that this shift will be given the raise. The work does not equal the pay.

6. I do not understand why there is a paycut... |
|
Sorry...I am suspicious of them. The bottom line is always, ALWAYS, ALWAYS paramount.
You gotta do what you gotta do.
ME? I would not take the paycut.
Good luck whatever you decide

Its because of a shift differential. I honestly prayed that this position would not be posted. I saw it on the board this morning and I actually cried (crazy to some) but its a position I want but I don't want to be broke. The shift is a grade III and I am a grade II - they are supposed to be given pay raises this fall. I hope so. Its hard to base a career decision on money. sigh

9. If it was me, I'd pass and wait for a job in that pay grade |
|
to come around again that doesn't have as many negatives attached. :(
I did turn down a job a year and a half ago that came with a $15,000 raise. The money would not have been worth all the negatives of the job.
Damn, I could use that extra money right now, but I'm glad I turned it down.

My mom told me to negoiate if offered the job. Put my 1 year Pre-Law skills to good use and see what happens.

do NOT use going to another company as leverage. They may meet a particular demand, but once you commit to staying, you're toast.

And the working conditions were better. Sometimes the extra money just isn't worth it, if the job itself makes you miserable.
Of course, with that attitude, I realize I'm never going to be rich. YMMV.

Give a (slur for gentile) a title, give a (slur for Jewish) the money.
Un der that rule, keep the money.

13. depends on the job. It would have to offer me something really important |
|
in terms of gratification or I would have to really hate what I was already doing.
I have been stung twice by taking what seemed like a great position and six months later, wished I was back where I was before.

25. good idea. I have to tell you, stress is everything If you even think |
|
the higher job grade is going to increase your job stress, think really hard. Besides, you have to figure in the pay cut, which could cause a completely different type of stress.
What exactly is the dream job you may be moving to and what are you doing now?

14. Can you make the pay cut work? |
|
That's the key question.
I'm all for following your gut, because that is better for you internally, but I also am not an idiot.
If you can handle the pay cut and you like this position better, then I say, 'do it' If you can't, or it's not really as good as you think it is, they stick where you are.

18. It would depend on how quickly I could advance and make up the pay cut. |
|
Now, if the new job has a fancier title and you can use that to your advantage to go to a new company for a better position, then do that if you can afford the cut temporarily.

26. What GOPisEvil said. Think 'long term' benefit. |
|
The one who cares about your career the most is you, so act accordingly. Titles look good on resumes, especially if they come with increased responsibility, but be prepared to find another position with another company once your resume can handle it. The bottom line is taking care of you and your family, and doing what is best for all of you. :)
