Anyone else here watch Mad Men on AMC?
I just started to watch season #1 of Mad Man on On-Demand. What an intriguing show. After watching 4 episodes I think I'm going thru nicotine withdrawel. But the show is very well done and I highly recommend it to everyone here at DU.

1. AMC ran a Season One Marathon yesterday.
So I saw it all again. I love the show.
Season Two starts this coming Sunday.

2. Watched it from day one!
Excellent writing and acting. Nominated for several Emmy awards, in its debut season.

Saw one review that said in "Hollywoodland" (set in the 1950's), they look like present-day actors plopped into 50's clothes and sets, but with "Mad Men" you completely accept the characters, and the actors look like they belong.

Several Loungers have extolled its virtues:

4. I found their efforts t o evoke "the difference" obvious...
...and obtuse. The "difference" between 1960 and 2008. Okay, I get it: Everyone smokes. Women are treated as objects but (surprise!) they're real people too. Every executive has a bar in his office and everyone who stops by drains a tumbler of scotch. I thought the first season of this show lacked in terms of drama and actors(characters) one might really be excited by. I haven't seen the whole first season, but the mad man's wife ("Grace Kelly") struck me as having potential, until she went out and started shooting BBs at her neighbor's homing pigeons. A lame attempt at drama. I'm not buying what this show is selling. And I'm not sure what it's selling, frankly.

5. Yes. The BEST show on TV currently
I was watching the marathon on AMC yesterday. I was wondering if they added some deleted scenes, because there was stuff in there I didn't remember from the original airing.

6. I watch it for the set design.
I'm waiting for my parents' couch to appear in a guest-starring role.

7. I've watched some of it.
It's really too good for its own good. the casual sexism, quite accurate for the time, just gets too annoying after a while.
