I have never had a blood pressure problem, but Sunday and Monday I had a screamin' headache, outrageously high BP, and tightness in my chest. Called my doc, who was out, so her nurse sent me to the ER.

Well, they admitted me. I was demeroled, poked, prodded, splayed, stickered, wired, injected, inspected, bled, bruised, EKG'd, CAT'd, stress-tested and rested...and worst of all, I was put on a cardiac diet while in the hospital. Which means they dump crap out of a can, don't season it, and make you eat it. Thank god MMjr. stayed with me last night, so he could sneak down to the basement vending machines and score me a bag of chips.

After all the tests and stuff, they determined I didn't have a heart attack--which, duh! I knew. But because of the blood pressure spike and headaches, they've given me a beta blocker (hope I don't have to take that for long. Ugg.) and a pill for headaches. They think the chest tightness might be due to my MV prolapse...no biggie.

So, in a nutshell...I went to the ER because my doctor's nurse sent me there, never expecting anything more than to have my BP checked, and I ended up admitted--which I never expected.

Now I'm gonna lay on the couch with my mutts, and maybe get up and eat a salt sandwich.

In my wildest dreams, I never expected to be admitted to the hospital when I left to get my blood pressure checked--certainly didn't expect them to test me for everything that they did.

If my camera were charged, I'd photograph the bend in my arm and show you the golfball sized bruise there. Two blood people tried to take my blood IN THE DARK...and I finally said, "Enough's enough! Stop!" But that was the worst thing I went through for the 28 hours I was in the hospital.

At least I know I'm healthy as a horse...except for the mitral valve thingy.

71. I got overheated Sunday and Monday.

I mowed my yard with a pushmower and helped my dad unload a trailer load of bark....Evidently, I was dangerously close to heat stroke...never happened to me before.

They never found what spiked my blood pressure, but they ruled out anything serious, so I'm content in knowing that. :D

regarding potential causes of, and remedies for high blood pressure. I can swear by the garlic and hawthorn myself, though I admittedly need to cut back on processed foods. (Can't afford the all organic diet right now unfortunately)

I have mitral prolapse. I've taken beta blockers forever, for HBP. Atenolol is no problem at all. It has helped.
