Attention: Those who are fixing to move into an apartment. |
|
I have been conputerless/TVless/phoneless for going on two weeks because I made the very poor assumption that I would be able to switch my cable service to my new place without any hassle. It turns out that the cable line in my unit is old by current digital standards and is going to have to be replaced.
I can't describe the nightmare I've had to deal with since then, juggling the landlord (who is 84 years old, and in the terms of the real estate agent who coordinates his properties, "Really doesn't understand this Internet stuff"), the cable company, and the landlord's agent as I try to get this settled. Hopefully, the end may be in sight on Wednesday but right now I won't believe it until I see it.
Moral of the story: Before moving in to a new place, ask if the cable connections are up to snuff. Chances are they are, but ask anyway. This is even more imperative now since everyone is being forced to go digital by February. If I had known this before I agreed to take the place (1970-era building) I would have kept on looking. But...again...it never occurred to me to ask.
If this saves just one person the headaches that I've had, then I will be very glad.
That is all.

1. I just moved too. The whole thing is a pain in the neck. But I live in |

a safe neighbourhood, in a safe nice building. So it was worth it. But I really hate moving. I am so sick of it. Didn't have the hassle you had yet still I hate it and I am almost all set up.
