I'm taking a Lit class this semister and the teacher is one of the best I've ever had. I can always look foreward to going to his class and I don't mind the reading he assigns, I actually like a lot of it, so my dillema is this:
Last week we were suppose to read two stories and write a reaction on them, and I spaced it. I tried squeeking them out at the beginning of class, but he asked that the assignment be turned in almost when the class started, so I had to turn in nothing. Even though I read both stories and contributed to the class discussion about them, I feel bad. Should I?

It wouldn't be the first time something got spaced. Sounds like an honest mistake (and an attempt at recovery) to me.

2. Sure. You make a bargain with a teacher. You have assignments and |
|
they give you knowledge, sources and inspiration. Feel bad and then don't do it again. This is a social and moral contract. You broke it. Learn from it and move on.
RV, a teacher by trade, a life-long learner by ambition. <Turn them in late. Better get his grudging nod than lose his respect forever.>

Turn in the assignments late. You will get some credit--maybe full credit--if you are honest.
I have taken late assignments and given full credit. Even if it's partial credit, a 70 looks more respectable in the gradebook than a big goose egg.
When you turn them in, don't try to cover your tracks. Tell the prof the truth just as you told it here.

4. What about extra credit? |
|
For this class, we are allowed extra credit if we attend "outside Literary events" so would doing that make up the necessary ground? Late assignments are not allowed, bummer.

5. Yes, do the extra credit. Do you have to write reviews of the events? |
|
If so, do a bang-up job on those.
