Rant... got my first speeding ticket yesterday. |
|
Which really isn't so bad... I mean I've deserved to get them in the past but haven't, so...
But the weird thing is the cop said that there's a warrant for someone who got a ticket while (supposedly) driving my car in Fort Worth. Which is wrong... cause my car's never been there.
So... I call the Fort Worth police department and the solution? I have to go get new plates.
:wtf:
Because they screw something up, I have to go stand around in the stupid DMV or tax collector's office or wherever?
Stupid... argh.

1. Go to court and plead the ticket |
|
You may be able to reduce or eliminate the points on your license.

3. I am sure every state varies a bit |
|
In NJ, you simply show up. Show up on your court date. At some point you talk to the judge or prosecutor. If you have a clean record, they will usually let you plead to a lesser charge. I am sure states vary though, so talk to people in your state.
I will tell you, I kick myself. When I was younger I got a couple of speeding tickets and just paid the fine. It was only later in life that I learned it's worth going the plea bargin route.

I'm just not clear on the 'lesser charge'... I wonder if there is one, for speeding.

5. They can either reduce the ammount over the speed limit |
|
or let you plead to a charge that carries less points.

14. I've gotten a ticket knocked down to almost nothing, to a non-moving violation |
|
they don't give a shit about points on your license, they just want the fees paid! If you take the time and show up, you'll get it knocked down.

6. Ok, I am going to guess that Parche's thread was a copycat |
|
Were your plates ever stolen, was your car ever borrowed, etc...

11. Yeah....Frisco is Collin. Further West on 121, the Colony is Denton. |

If you bought the vehicle from a dealership, and paid the $50.00 "Doc Fee" and the $5.00 TRAS/Deputy Fee, than tell the dealership to clear-up this fuck-up.
About 2 years ago, they started allowing the dealerships in a few large counties to enter the records into the state system, scan the documents, and issue plates directly from the dealership.

12. I sold an old car out of my backyard. |
|
It had sat for years,so I forgot that plates where on it. I started getting tickets cause I was the last person registered with those plates. When I explained this, the tickets were wiped out and I didn't cost my anything. Whew!
