are there any non-mainstreamed (co-opted) countercultures out there?
when i was a teen, me and many of my friends were second wave punk rockers (hardcore/skaters) in the early 80s.

a major label wouldn't go near any of the bands we listened to and our hairstyles and manner of dress elicited shock from "establishment" types.

are there any countercultures today among today's youth that don't represent a revenue stream in some media company's books?

1. They're all pretty well covered.
I go into Hot Topic now and then just to laugh at some of the ridiculous stuff they have there.

The one thing that made me almost fall on my ass laughing was a little rubber bracelet... shaped to look like barbed wire. Oh yeah. That's so goth right there. Soft rubber. In the shape of something hard and metal. And up until then I thought the cheap little chrome colored plastic spikes on the clothing were cheesy.

3. Yeah, I'm not big into any scene
but when I wanted to wear something that felt goth, I cut up an old pair of steel toed boots to make a pair of bracers. (they're called bracers, not gauntlets people. Gauntlets are gloves. Bracers cover the forearm arm... come from the same root word as bracelet.) Then, instead of putting little cheesy plastic spikes on there, I used a woodburner to burn symbols into it and I wrapped five feet of black chain around each one. Still got 'em around somewhere.
