1. Iron Man, of course.
Awesome suit and all, but no superpowers. Unless getting drunk is a superpower these days...

3. Let's exclude superheroes with battlesuits and techno-magical gizmos, okay?
Edited on Tue Jul-22-08 11:48 PM by Orrex
That leaves out Iron Man and Green Lantern, for example. Those posers.

8. Then that would leave Batman out too.
His suit may not be as technical as Iron Man's, but he certainly uses tricks and technology to his advantage.

10. That's a difference of degree, perhaps, but a significant one
A battlesuit that lets you benchpress 85 tons is a lot different from a battlesuit that lets you take a bottle to the head.

Sure, Bats uses a lot of gadgets, but these (classically) are tools that let the man do his work. Batman without gadgets is still Batman. Iron Man without the armor is a guy with a heart condition.

15. That's great!
Also, it must be admited that he has employed strength-augmenting devices numerous times in the comic's 70-year run.

But I submit that these are incidental to the essential character, unlike GL's ring or IM's supersuit.

18. I dunno, Green Lanterns are chosen based on who they are already
so that might be arguable. But Tony Starke... yeah. His only power is the ability to make the toys that he uses.

19. Another good point. Kind of a "worthy to wield Thor's hammer" sort of thing
Of course, Hal Jordan turned out to be sort of a loose cannon after all that. Thanks a lot, Abin Sur!

20. But an effective one at that. :P
I was actually thinking of an episode of the Justice League cartoon, when they go back in time and John doesn't have a lantern to recharge his ring. Even without his powers, he keeps right on going. Ends up helping save the day just the same as he would if he had a working power ring.

17. hmm,
not sure if Batman counts....

I think his superpower is the ability to beat anyone he comes across...a mere mortal beating the villians, and heroes he has come across seems...rather far fetched.

26. Most of "The Tick" characters would qualify.
American Maid throws shoes and kicks ass. Sewer Urchin has no power except an extensive knowledge of the sewer system. Arthur flies but only with mechanical wings.

Even the Tick himself really only has his "nigh-invulnerability" and his freaky-big size.

Fledermaus is my personal favorite. No powers, just an inflated ego.

31. He's good with the logic, too:
The Shoveler: Oh yeah, well, maybe if we had a billionaire like Lance Hunt as our benefactor, then we could afford some advertising.

Mr. Furious: That's because Lance Hunt is Captain Amazing.

Blue Raja: Oh, here we go.

Shoveler: Oh, don't start that again! Lance Hunt wears glasses. Captain Amazing doesn't wear glasses.

Mr. Furious: {Long-suffering} He takes them off when he transforms.

Shoveler: That doesn't make any sense. He wouldn't be able to see!

And he uses a shit load of technology...

But still, there you go.

30. I love the parody ones:
such as those of the Bob Burden comic The Flaming Carrot

That led to the following powerless Mystery Men:
The Blue Raja (although he actually wears green with flowers on it)
The Shoveler
Mr. Furious

And then there are those in The Tick, such as
American Maid
Batmanuel
Die Fledermaus
Sarcastro

and other minor characters and villains that are quite powerless :D
