lovely to wake up to a pile
of doggie diarrhea

we just adopted a greyhound yesterday
sorry about not posting the pic... but you can see him here
http://radicalfringe.freeservers.com/favorite_links.html

he has the jitters, new house and all, and what is now appearing to be a jittery intestinal system...

we are in the process of switching dog foods - gave him 3/4's his old stuff to 1/4 new stuff...

when the previous owner gave him up, he stayed with a foster "owner" for a couple of days before we picked him up. the foster "owners" did say they kept him on his old food, and that he did have diarrhea..

oh well, maybe it's just his old food? or just a new home jitters..

hopefully we'll have this sorted out in a couple of days

any suggestions?

1. Kudos to you
for adopting a Greyhound - they're so sweet & needy.

Are you feeding him any meat products? If so, try getting him onto high-protein dry dog food only, which helps to eliminate the 'rrhea.

4. his old dry food
is mostly "junk", which is why we are trying to switch him over to a higher protein dry dog food

with the diarrhea - we are concerned about doing a complete switch-er-roo as opposed to a gradual change over. I was always told a gradual switch was better

he will be going to the vet at some point this week for a check-up and to get established with our vet, have to call and make an appointment later today

2. Have your vet check him out asap..
He could have picked up a "big" at the kennel or at the foster place..

Poor baby :(.. But ..Lucky baby.. he has a home :)

3. awww
What a cutie and I, too, am happy he has a good home now. I'm sure things will settle down after awhile--I'm going through the same thing (sans diarrhea) with a new kitten.

9. Been there, done that.
How about waking up to a pile of doggie doo and another pile of vomit?

10. At least you didn't step in it, did you?
My favorite is stepping in the cat throwup first thing in the morning in my bare feet.

Good luck with your new dog. I think greyhounds are cool!

11. Congratulations!
I rescued a greyhound some years back, and he was one of the best dogs I have ever had the joy to share life with. I kept mine on hamburger and rice since that is what he was used to. He was sooo big, it was not unlike having a pony poop. Thankfully, he never had a problem with diarrhea.
