"Crime and Punishment." Who's read it? |
|
I want to read another Dostoevsky novel and would appreciate a recommendation. Crime and Punishment is the only book I've read that filled me with dread, gave me indigestion and made my limbs feels heavy.

3. "The Idiot" is also superb. |

I think in some ways it captures modern culture perfectly. Materialism and sex...that's what's important to many people.

That book is fabulous for inducing a comatose state.

I read Brothers Karamazov first so C&P was by contrast a fairly breezy read. There's just something about those Russians that captivates me. I do get sort of freaked out at how so much of Russian literature is read in English via one translator (Constance Garnett). I've been thinking of reading a different translation of Brothers K; its one of my favorite all time novels.

6. I read it in my Russian Lit class in high school. |
|
I was just talking about this book over the weekend when that song by the Cure, "Killing an Arab". I had to do a comparison of it to "The Stranger". I remember laughing about C&P in class and my teacher thought I thought killing landlords was funny but I had to explain that it was his guilty feelings that were so funny.
