I no longer have a DVD player |
|
I put in Ghost World to watch tonight, and right at the beginning of the movie the picture just stopped. I tried to open the DVD player to get it out, but there was no response when I pushed any of the buttons. So, not only was it not responding, but my DVD was in there!!! Somehow the disc had slipped out of the tray way back into the machine. Maybe it happened when I picked it up. Well, I had to take the whole thing apart, inside and all to get my DVD out. The DVD plays, but it way more scratched up than it was, and now I'm out a DVD player. x(
I guess I'll be using my laptop to watch movies on for awhile. I just can't justify a new DVD player when I already have a way to watch DVDs. *sigh*

1. DVD players are pretty cheap now |
|
my old one died awhile back, and I needed a new one.
I got the cheapest one I could find - probably $50, and it's great. It even has some really nice features.

2. Three questions for you |
|
1) Was it a Panasonic?
2) How long did you have the DVD player?
3) Any odd numbers on the L.E.D. display when it died? (Like "H02" for example)

4. Is there a known problem with Panasonics? |
|
I won't buy another one - Panasonic has cost me twice with expensive dvd players that puked and died. :grr: I won't buy another one.

I had one that died a few years ago. I got online and googled "Panasonic" and the error code, thinking I would find some information on how to solve the problem. Instead, I found literally hundreds of other identical stories. It's no coincidence.
It's either planned obsolescence or deliberately crappy manufacturing. Either way, it seems to be the rule, rather than the exception with Panasonics.

Had it about 5 or 6 years and nothing weird with the LED. Everything just stopped while the thing was in the on position.
I'm just glad I got my DVD out.

5. We bought one at Target too |
|
TruTech, had it for six months, and now it won't do anything but say "Loading disc" for a couple minutes, then "Wrong disc" because it's expecting Bee Movie. Unplugged it for an hour, made no difference.
Went online and found (a) multiple complaints about TruTech and (b) that it's got a capacitor that's too low.
So TruTech is a Bad Idea IMHO.

That's 35 bucks that could go in our gas tank right now.
I'm just glad that my laptop plays DVDs. :)

6. Ask around, a friend can probably give you one |
|
I'm betting someone you know has upgraded to Blu-Ray or some other whiz-bang model and now has a perfectly functional one sitting in the closet.
