Poll question: Can you read/write mirror writing?
Edited on Fri Jul-25-08 09:53 AM by eyepaddle
In other words do you have the ability to read backwards writing? Apparently the ability is much more common among left handed people than among right handed folks, but is fairly rare.

Wikipedia has a fiarly good entry on the subject, but the one report which claims a frequency of one in 6500, is well...not all that rigorous, I personally think it is much more common than that--but still a significant minority.

So c'mon DU, once again please help me satisfy an idle curiosity! :) And please be honest--than our results will be at least as good as the Australian Dr.'s were.

And yes, I can read and write backwards.

Edited to add the wiki link:

1. I can
but I read it better than I write it.

If I practiced, I would probably be better, but it's not a skill that I have ever felt the need to really cultivate.

2. Dude...MrsCoffee can write mirror-writing AT THE SAME TIME as she's writing regular
Edited on Fri Jul-25-08 10:26 AM by MrCoffee
It's the freakiest thing I've ever seen. She holds pens in both hands and starts writing...her right hand will write a word the regular way while her left hand goes off writing the same thing as her right hand, but backwards.

I just about had a heart attack the first time I saw her do it. Woman has demons all up in her business.

6. Oddly
it's probably easier to do that than to just do mirror writing. As a kid, I could do that on a blackboard pretty easily.

It's easier to move both arms in symmetrical motions than to just write backwards with one hand.

7. Whoa, I never even thought about that,it turns out I can pull that off too!
I can't however write forward with both hands at the same time--and stay on the same line of the paper at any rate--I need th evisual feedback to stay on target--so to speak.

3. Two of my children went through a mirror-writing stage
before they learned the correct way. One is left-handed and the other is not.

I can read it, but not write it.
