3. Have you talked to her about this?
I have two cats and I talk to them about things. They really listen. Next time when you are lovingly holding your kitty after she bites you, tell her that you don't like it and why. Remind her that you would never hurt her and would like it if she wouldn't hurt you.
I may sound wacko but my cats and I have a loving relationship.

5. You realize that you're enforcing the behavior, yes?
By cuddling the little darling after she does something that you don't like, you are giving your kitty positive reinforcement, making it more likely that she attacks your feet again and again.

I'd suggest you start carrying a water pistol or squirt bottle with you around the house. When kittie attacks your feet, give her a squirt and a firm "no!". Cats are smart - it won't take her long to figure out that feet are off limits. :hi:

I have the opposite problem - a cat who is attached to my feet 24/7 (or at least whenever he's in the house). I've lost track of how many times that darn cat has either tripped me, or caused me to accidentally kick him as he tries to stay in physical contact with me all the time. He even flops down and rests his head on my feet when I'm brushing my teeth or doing dishes. :eyes:

Love that cat to pieces!

6. i've tried the squirt bottle
she looks me right in the eye, and doesn't move an inch. i have had success with the scat though, its a motion sensor can of compressed air, so if she gets up somewhere she isn't supposed to be (she loves to 'file' papers on desks...i call her the secretary), it makes a hissing noise, and she gets a little puff of air.

that is so cute! even when you brush your teeth? :loveya:

9. In that case...
...you can get little cans of compressed air at computer stores (used to clean dust from keyboards and such), and do the same thing. Having a kitty attack bare feet is not fun!

Yeah, he'll flop down on me anytime he thinks I'm likely to not move for a little while. Unless I'm standing next to the bed, in which case he jumps up there, then jumps up on me with his front feet so I can scratch his cheeks and behind his ears. He's really a total attention slut - if you deign to stop petting him, he'll either pat your hand with his paw, or do the 'shovelhead' thing in order to draw your attention back to the important item of the day - loving on Toby. It really is all about him - we call him our puppy cat.

16. Sounds like play-aggression.
Edited on Fri Jul-25-08 01:28 PM by backscatter712
We all know how kitties are - they're definition of "play" is to attack things - play aggression. Usually, well-socialized kitties will pull their punches - they know perfectly well that they can sink their fangs into you all the way to the gum, but they just give you a little nip. Of course, sometimes, they get excited and carry things too far, or you reinforce the wrong behavior by doing something rewarding to "calm kitty down."

If you see your cat lying in ambush to attack your feet (after all, Ambush is their favorite game), get out the kitty toys - strings, mousies, milk jug rings, Q-tips, laser pointers, and get the cat to attack that. Redirect the play-aggression at a more appropriate target.

7. Not 24/7, just occasionally when grandkitty gets in that mood
He can be all lovey and sweet, the suddenly flip over grab a toe and bite it. A sure way to tell when it's going to happen is if he licks your toe or your leg..a quick bite almost always follows.

He also had a habit of racing me into the bathroom and waiting until I'm most vulnerable to wrap himself around an ankle and give a bite.

Water bottles don't work with him..he loves water and is known to jump in the shower with my daughter. We've used a pop can with a couple coins in it, taped shut for corrections. It gets his attention and tends to shake him out of his trance he gets in when he's trying to claw furniture or get into the aquariums. He now knows what No means and the word Can. The problem remains though for his hit and run bites.

8. Mine tries to tackle calves as you walk.
Doesn't use her claws or teeth (usually) so it's (usually) cute.

12. Max forever attacks my feet
Edited on Fri Jul-25-08 12:34 PM by StopThePendulum
especially when I'm in bed asleep. He wakes me up practically every morning with his attacks on my feet!

His punishment? Food--canned food at that. He does that to wake me up to feed him, especially if I oversleep.

Mind you, he'll be 5 months old tomorrow.

17. Not all the time, just the worst possible time.
We were in bed, involved in something adults do when I suddenly got a look of terror on my face as I tried to get the words out...ca...ca...cat!

She thought SHE was somehow hurting me but what I was trying to tell her was that her cat had sunk his claws into my ankle and he was chewing on my foot like it was filled with catnip.

Kinda killed the mood, at least temporarily.
