Anyone else watch Life on Mars?
We just started watching this series and man, I am LOVING it. I'm sad it only goes on for 16 episodes though. Apparently they are making an American version now, which is bound to suck (The American Office notwithstanding).

3. There's 2 seasons, and yeah, it's fucking great
I saw the first attempt at the US version, and it's fucking horrible. Of course they fucked it up.

Gene Hunt, on American telly? Not bloody likely!

Edited on Fri Jul-25-08 02:17 PM by Rambis
First of all you can't say shit, bollocks, poof, tits, bastard etc etc etc What the fuck is Gene supposed to say? They will have taken most of his words away in america. Why anyone tries these remakes baffles me to no end.

21. Question...
My husband and I were watching it last night and talking about this...why are the "mysteries" always so easy to solve on the show? With all the care they take to write amazing dialogue and develop the characters, you'd think they'd get one writer on staff would could write a decent police procedural mystery story, so we wouldn't figure out who the culprit was 45 minutes before Same and Hunt do. It makes me think less of the show and the characters.

One small mar in an otherwise brilliant show...

23. Perhaps they assume the mystery as to why Sam is there in the first
place and will he ever leave is the main one, and the rest is just 'the rest'. I don't know.

What the hell am I doing up this early?

4. They've already made the US version and it does suck
I don't watch it, but I've read that they're retooling it. Word is that they signed Harvey Keitel to play the old sergeant dude--that alone may make it worth seeing.

6. Hmm, maybe.
But Hunt is such a singular character, and SO English, I can't imagine it working with any American actor.

What a brilliant un-PC character. There'll never be an American character to hold a candle to him.

20. I bought the Region 2 DVDs from Amazon UK
Evidently it will not be released in the U.S. due to problems with the music rights and competition with the US version.

22. Drop your weapons! You're surrounded by armed bastards!
It's such an amazing show. John Simm and Philip Glenister are perfect. The sequel, Ashes to Ashes, isn't as good; but it's also cute.

The American pilot SUCKED, but ABC trashed the show and is trying again. Harvey Keitel replaces Colm Meaney (Chief O'Brien from Star Trek) as American Gene and the show moves from LA to New York. The same blank male model is American Sam, though.

that's part of his charm, having to use his brain instead of roughing people up.

30. Pet peeve: In the 1950s-1960s, American networks used to import British shows
and just SHOW them.

Robin Hood, The Buccaneers,The Avengers, The Prisoner, Secret Agent. They were POPULAR. British programs are still popular on PBS
I was looking at a U.S. DVD site the other day, and two of their top twenty upcoming releases were British PBS programs (Foyle's War and Inspector Lynley.)

Now we just get lame remakes on U.S. commercial networks.
