Everytime I think life can't suck worse, shit like this happens...
I bought a laptop this evening, and a laptop connect card at Radio Shack. I got it home, turned it on, and it seemed to work fine. I registered it, did all of that kind of stuff. Then my phone rang, I turned off the computer. When I went to turn it back on, I got the opening Vista screen, asking for my password. But neither the mousepad nor the keyboard would work. I couldn't type nor move the cursor. I called Radio Shack, and they asked me to bring it in. I did. It did the same thing for them, several times. They couldn't figure it out. They gave me a new computer. It seemed to work fine there.

I brought it home, turned it on, and the opening Vista screen is frozen, with neither the mouse nor keyboard working. Radio Shack is closed, and I'm pissed.

1. Yuck...
I feel for you, but I'm gonna hold on to Windows XP for the forseeable future.

2. I asked the RS guy if Vista was the problem. He assured me it isn't. I'm not so sure. nt

3. Damn!
I'm sorry.

My only advice is to avoid radioshack. I used to know someone who was a manager of one of their stores. They do not hire people for having any kind of expertise, and they are not know for their good products or tech support.

4. The computer(s)'s an Acer. So, the product shouldn't be a problem.
And I wanted to support a local business-rather than order online. In this town, there are two choices: Radio Shack or Wal-Mart. So, Radio Shack.

5. What a frustrating problem
I have had similar problems in the past, and boy, was it annoying! There's nothing like running around town desperately trying to get your computer (a lifeline, as far as I'm concerned!) to work. My sympathies.

6. O.K. You've said "Radio Shack". On a positive note, you've narrowed down...
...your problem with those two words. On a negative note - as you've said - they're closed. The best move you could make, is get your money back from them when they open, and get them out of your life.

Sorry you're dealing with this crap...

8. But it's not a RAdio Shack brand. It's an Acer. Both of 'em were fresh out of the box.
So, it doesn't seem like it would be Radio Shack's fault.

10. I was referring to the component you got from Radio Shack...
...my experience is that most of their stuff is garbage.

11. All I bought was the laptop. Nothing with the "Radio Shack" brand.
I just happened to buy an Acer laptop there.

7. The only time I have experienced that at my job...
(we loan laptops out at the Uni Library)

...is when we plug them in to recharge while they are powered up. When we unplug them to loan, there is a window that says 'maintenance mode: keyboard and mouse are disabled'. We have to power it down and restart it.

It sounds like you don't get a message like that and that you have shut down/restarted, so this may not help.
