I had I forget how many jackncokes when I was in Vegas and that did the job a bit too nicely.

21. LOL! Depends on how many 'free' drinks you have!

They make money off the drunks. That's actually their game plan. ;)

40. why would it be? certainly not my experience of vegas and i've only been about 97 times
not seeing the logic of this, since the purpose of the free drinks is to promote gambling, and a watered down drink would not do the job

i've occasionally encountered a watered down margarita at some really shitty place like western ho but not in "real" resorts

something tells me that you are not tipping properly

for whatever reason i've had more than my fair share of un-asked for doubles in vegas, not that i'm complaining mind you, just that if you're drinking a double in the desert you need to order a water back!

6. My dear LostInAnomie!
I actually have no idea...

I only got drunk once...

And that was waaaaaaaaaaay more than enough for me!

I can tell you this:

One glass of wine, with food, and I'm high.

Not sky-high, mind you, but with a very pleasant buzz...

;-)

of Benadryl so that isn't saying much.

which is why I pretty much stick to wine

11. Depends on what I'm drinking and how fast
So I'll use a practical example from my past drinking experiences.

My friends determined for me to get drunk enough to fall into a bush it would take 2 vodka and cokes, 12 or so light domestic beers and a few shots of Jager thrown in for good measure. I'd say all of that would have to be consumed between 9pm and 2am It's not very scientific but it actually happened and I would consider falling into a bush "fo' real drunk"

The 2 times I've had a blackout drinking experience, I couldn't remember what I've had to drink so I couldn't say how much that was...but I do know *a lot* of vodka was consumed both times

14. I can drink a quart of monkey and still stand still
No, seriously, it depends on the beverage.

I could probably drink a dozen light beers and be good, but two Long Island Iced Teas or a couple high output microbrews, and I'd be toasted.

19. No idea, Never been that drunk. But I've kept pace with friends and left them under the table.
I think there is some psychological component to being drunk. I've matched beer for beer with people, especially in grad school, then stood up and walked away while they couldn't even get up. I was legendary for it--people were always trying to get me drunk, and always admitting they had failed.

My secret weapon back then was the Ultimate Cheeseburger at Jack in the Box. I'd eat one of those before hitting the clubs. I think the fat neutralized the booze, or that's what I thought back then.

I wonder how I'd fair now in a drinking contest as a vegetarian. :) Not that I'm interested in finding out. Sometimes when you've survived something intact, you know better than to attempt it again.

30. I believe oil is supposed to have the same effect
the only time I don't start feeling wine in a hurry is when I have it at dinner and put vinegar and oil dressing on the salad.

But I think any heavy meal will slow things down. And an Ultimate Cheeseburger definitely fits the bill.

I've kept up with big drinkers and never felt, nor behaved differently. I couldn't see what the big deal was. But I knew too much was poison and stopped keeping up with the crowd.

C'mon now! Cheer up! this will pass. many have gone through this. I've been on my own

for a long time and... well, you just have to get 'used' to yourself. Get comfortable

in your own skin and don't let the asshats bother you and you seem to have a monumental

task doing that, where you live. :yourock: for all the letters you write to the newspaper

and I think that is just awesome! Take a warm, fragrant bath and relax... having a partner

isn't all it's cracked up to be. Sometimes it's really good to be alone! It's freeing!

Have you ever read the book, "Grace (Eventually)"; by Anne Lamont?

She's a trip and I'll bet you'd like her style. She takes no prisoners. ;)

- Los Angeles Times - There's no one quite like Anne Lamott. ... She manages

Biography

In novels such as Rosie and Hard Laughter and in her nonfiction tomes touching on everything
from writing to motherhood, Anne Lamott presents a biting wit and self-pity-free look at life's
tougher trials. Lamott skates on the edge of dysfunction, but faces the side of spirit and humor.

More About the Author: http://search.barnesandnoble.com/Grace/Anne-Lamott/e/9781594489426#TABS

From Barnes & Noble:

Anne Lamott knows that faith isn't easy: "I wish grace and healing were more abracadabra kinds
of things," she writes, "that delicate silver bells would ring to announce grace's arrival.
But no, it's clog and slog and scotch, on the floor, in silence, in the dark." In this new
collection of essays, the author of Plan B grapples with problems of faith as they pop up
in unexpected places, including an unpleasant carpet transaction and her changing relationship
with her son. As always, Lamott's insightful reflections are infused with candor and her signature
self-deprecating wit. A spiritual treasure in any season.

From the Publisher:

The sharp, funny, and heartfelt follow-up to her bestselling Plan B, Anne Lamott's
newest collection is a personal exploration of the faith and grace all around us.

Give it a try. ;)

24. Depends on your definition of "drink"....
Two LIITs with only 2 oz of alcohol in each gets me really, really hammered. (I went to a bar in California, I usually order a LIIT variant called either a Grateful Dead or a Royal Tea -- it's a LIIT with Sprite or 7-Up instead of Coke, and a splash of sour mix. When I ordered it, the chick who was bartending that day said "That's my favorite drink, too!" But she made it double-strength, and I could not taste the amount of alcohol in it. So I ordered another, and halfway through it I realized I was in trouble. Everyone said I didn't look drunk, but I puked all day the next day. Yuck.)

I answered this as though you were discussing 5 oz glasses of wine -- three glasses is enough to get me nicely drunk, and four is edging close into puking hangover territory.

I used to be able to handle liquor pretty well (never liked the taste of beer), but over the last 10 years or so, i have noticed that i would consider myself 'impaired' after my 2nd Captain & Coke.

oddly even more so now that i'm getting to an age where you think "that time of the month" would be sort of an irrelevance

there are days, like today, where one glass of wine has me pretty giddy!

42. I don't know anymore...
back in my college days, I would have to say it was A HELLUVA LOT. I could easily throwback 12 or more miller lite :puke: pints and still be composed enough to not fall in a bush (criteria mentioned upthread) or make a complete fool of myself.

In my mid-late 20s, I was still on the same level, but there had to be enough activity involved to sweat it out.

As I approach 40, I can honestly say that I avoid over-consumption because I dread the hangover. There is nothing worse than a hangover. I did drink an entire bottle of red wine at my company holiday party this past year, and yeah, I was pretty drunk - not as drunk as the young lady who hurled on herself as she was escorted out by HR, but I had a damned good buzz going.
