Here's a poem I wrote back in 1994. Looking at it now, it seems to be about John McCain. |
|
Born in the wrong place Raised in a whirlwind Married to an old set of ideas Gone gray and senile
The history of this place, Which is not ours Has become, by necessity The history of ourselves
What do you think? When I wrote it, it was just a stream-of-consciousness riff. Now the first verse at least, seems to be about McSame. Opinions?

1. Hey, it only took 14 years for it to become germane. That ain't bad for poetry. |

2. A lot of my stuff never will be germaine. |
|
So much of it was inspired by Jim Morrison's poetry; it has an angsty '60's quality to it.

How perfectly lovely this is!
Wow, it's poetry night in the Lounge!
This sure sounds like McCain, but he's much less graceful!
Thank you so much for sharing...

I just happened to look out the window as twilight was falling...
And bingo...
There were the words...

The moon and the evening star An icy scepter in winter's night Sunsets like blood On the edge of a blade Evening's cool reminders of the Passing of summer's promise August exuberance and extroversion Turned down to Low November volume And the dominion of Shadows

Please, please tell me that you didn't just write this now?
I feel inadequate enough!
That is wonderful...
Great imagery...
And the way it transitions from the present to November is breathtaking...
Keep 'em coming!

8. Oh no. I wrote that back in 1992. |
|
I wish I could write off-the-cuff like that. That one took me about twenty minutes to get just right. "Just right" involved going for a walk through a chilly November dusk in Kentucky.
