What's the best way to clean a CD player?

I have a boom box that I play most of my music through. The last couple of times I've played CDs on there they have skipped badly. I'm assuming that the CD player on my boom box just needs cleaned because my CDs play just fine through my computer. I've never had this problem so I apologize for my technological immaturity in advance.
