For school, I'm asking about anything from nursery school to grad school (or highest completed of education). In grade school, I was forced to watch The Buttercream Gang and other stuff produced by "Feature Films for Families" (In the mid-late 90s, movie was made in 91 according to imdb). How long ago did you watch this stuff? Anyone old enough to have actually watched something featured on MST3K or at rifftrax.

1. The "Menstration" one was pretty bad.

3. Agreed.
In my school, when I was in 6th grade, there was no preparation for it, nothing. Just the "Mother/Daughter Tea". I think nearly every girl in there was dying, having to watch it.

The other one I thought was awful, which I saw in 7th grade, was about the "dangers" of marijuana. It was absolutely, totally ridiculous. The shit they showed in that one was more in keeping with an LSD trip, or with being crazy on meth. :eyes:

4. Some terrible childbirth video.
First of all, the worst thing about labor is that it takes for fucking ever, so if you're watching a short, edited down video you're going to get the wrong idea. But the real problem was that it was just really old and out of date- ladies, it's not the fifties, make sure your care provider has noticed. If your doctor wants you to deliver in the lithotomy position, when he gets in position kick his antiquated idea having ass in the head and tell him to go get you somebody competent.

That shit pisses me off- young women need to know what to expect, and to advocate for themselves, and they can't do that when they're being indoctrinated with outdated bullshit that leads to bad outcomes.

6. I think I saw that one too, but it was when I was in college,
took a course called "Psychology of Women," LOL. They showed us that film and also one of natural childbirth, and, after that, I just couldn't imagine why anyone would intentionally go through that... It was pretty scary. x(

10. This was for a college course on human sexuality.
Other than the instructor, I was the only person in the room who'd actually given birth. And she was old enough that she might not know better- sweet lady, but her kids are all older than me.

11. The two I saw were a kind of compare and contrast thing,
since the woman having natural childbirth definitely had an easier time of it. But they both were pretty unpleasant. And nobody in my class, including the instructor, had ever given birth. Actually, it was definitely a lesson in birth control... I realize now that I went to a feminist college.:-)

13. The natural birth video- was it a homebirth, or an unmedicated hospital birth?

15. It was a hospital birth, they both were, but the other one was much worse,
with a lot of pain and screaming. Really unpleasant. Like I said, had to have been serious birth control for the class. I actually hadn't thought about it much at 19, or whatever I was, but it obviously made a serious impression on me... :scared:

5. When I was in 9th grade, they showed us films about syphilis.
We knew nothing, LOL, and there was this poor boy in my school whose hair fell out, since he had some sort of nervous condition, but we assumed that he had the disease, after sitting through that film...x(

But the very worst one was called "Signal 30," which I had to sit through when I took Driver's Ed in high school. It was a horror show of fatal car accidents, which I guess they showed us to make us more careful drivers, but I didn't end up getting my driver's license until I was a few years out of college...x(

7. I can think of two.
One was a film we had to watch in middle school shop class about how they make plywood. It's been 15 years and I can still remember how fucking boring that shit was.

The other was about "changes" the male body goes through during puberty. Nothing particularly odd about it except for this one scene where a kid was watching his older brother in the shower, and then asks him when his penis will get that big. My friends and I still laugh at that one.

9. I remember seeing a shop film in junior high.
Showed some guy getting nailed in the mid-section by a 2x4.

Utterly gross!

:puke:

I don't know why they thought kids so young needed to see something like that.

8. Doctor Zhivago.
As an adult, I came to appreciate the film, but in ninth grade? Snoozefest.

12. I think that was my Dad's favorite film of all time.
I don't know if I've ever seen the whole thing, but I should make it a point to watch it...:hi:

14. My mother loves it, too.
And I appreciate it now on its artistic merits, but in ninth grade, 197 minutes is a loooooooong movie. We watched it for three days straight. :scared:

16. My Dad also loved "Passage to India," which I rented for him.
He had classy tastes, LOL. But you're right, that's one long movie to see when you're 13 or so. I remember seeing the movie "Oliver!" with my friends from summer camp and half of us fell asleep...:D
