Okay.. what is normal water consumption
for a 4 bedroom 2300 square foot house... in the summer... ( 100 degree plus for days on end :( ) with two people and two dogs?

No pool... a hotub that dosen't get used much in the summer.

What's normal?

1. No clue, but I'd say a look back at your previous bills ought to reveal that
Two of my coworkers noticed their bills were vastly different from the month before. They both went to the meter to see if it read close to what was on the bill and in both cases the meter was buried under about 8 inches of hardened muck. We had some major rains last month. Once they cleared away the dirt, the meter was nowhere NEAR what their bill said. They live in the same neighborhood. Likely a lazy fucking meter reader who decided to guess rather than do his job.

So, if your bill looks really weird, go check the meter and see if it matches your bill.

5. Really?
Between meter and bill, or between this bill and last bill?

8. Wow!!!!
That's three people I "know" in one billing cycle then. How strange is that?

Hell yeah, get on the phone and rip 'em a new one!

4. Depends a great deal on your habits
Shower/bathe twice a week or daily? Low-flow showerhead or not? Short showers or long?

Got low-flush toilets? Do you let yellow mellow or flush after ever use?

Wash dishes by hand or by dishwasher? Use a garbage disposal or not?

Laundry only with a completely full machine? Or wash many small loads?

Are you watering lawn and garden? In the heat of the day or at night? Sprinklers or soaker hose?

7. 200 to 250 and up per person is a "normal" figure
Edited on Mon Jul-28-08 09:27 PM by Kali
I am part of a watershed group that is participating in a study to debunk or confirm a figure for rural acreage use. There is some evidence that larger parcels use more water due to gardens and landscaping, small numbers of livestock, etc. Others feel that rural users tend to be more conservative with water use. Ironically in a drought-ridden state like AZ there has only been one study and it was in a wealthy "horsey" area.
The results for that were 312 gallons per person per day.

Some towns in our state have instituted really good conservation work with dry public bathrooms and such and have it down to like 80 gallons per person!

9. Our water meter
readings are transmitted electronically (no meter reader person,) but it always seems like the water use they claim is way higher than what we use.

I feel guilty every time I flush the toilet.
