Big thunderstorms here, and there are 6 (of 7) cats either on me
or within about 2 feet of me. Appears the children don't like loud, booming thunder. I'd love to get a photo, but with one cat on my lap and another lying across my forearms (making typing very difficult), I can't move.

Cat7 is a bit of a loner, and she likes to hide under the bed. The other six are acting nonchalant, grooming themselves, but are all keeping me (chief can-opener person) within their sights.

:D

Anyone else's pets have a hard time with storms?

7. you're in SoCal, right?
I grew up in Redlands, San Juan Capistrano, San Diego and Los Angeles and think I witnessed maybe 5 thunderstorms in my first 28 years. I LOVE thunderstorms, and while the southern humidity is oppressive, I love living here.

They are protecting you. Well, except for the misanthrope under the bed.

9. lol. MiniMe is truly a scaredy cat, poor sweet thing.
I don't see her too often, she's such a loner, but then several times a day she'll jump up onto my desk, purr and head-butt me, and then take off for her hidey places again.

But she's fierce! When LugHead (Ivan) tries to intimidate her, she is ferocious! She's the smallest cat, and years ago, when we let her out, she brought us a river rat about half her size. Don't mess with MiniMe!

3. That sounds heavenly. Cats are my favorite things in the world, and
thunderstorms are one of my favorite things.

Hey, I should make a song ... (Cue Julie Andrews):

"Seven furry kitties scared shitless by thunder
Lightning that crashes up, down, and under
Posting on DU, with arrows and slings
These are a few of my faaaaavorite things..."

4. My kitties and my dog don't like thunderstorms at all.
The kitties go into hiding, and the dog burrows into the blanket on the couch next to us.

5. Four of our cats don't care if there's a thunderstorm, but....
...number five always goes and hides. They scare her to death.

11. I don't know if MiniMe is scared, or just being her usual aloof self
Since I see the sweet thing so rarely ...

6. My two dogs start asking to come into the house the minute they
detect the first rumble of thunder, no matter how distant. They tolerate the noise fairly well though. Of that I am pleased. I have had dogs that became trembling masses of flesh during thunder storms. I got tranquilizers for them, but by the time the meds kicked in, the storms were past. I just had drugged doggies lying around.

12. drugged doggies ...
poor things. My sister had one dog who just went absolutely apeshit over any sort of noise from the sky - thunder, planes, the whoosh of hot air balloons, etc. The dog would just run in circles until she collapsed. My sister finally found a farm far, far, FAR away from modern life that was looking for a herding dog, and the dog seemed to improve a lot. Might not have been the noise so much as urban life (the dog was part Australian shepherd and just seemed to have endless energy).

14. My current dogs and I are truly fortunate that we live on 20 acres in
the Ozark woods of NW Arkansas, 4.4 miles from the nearest paved road. I moved them up here from the much larger city in Louisiana where they were born. They are quite laid back in their new surroundings. So am I. Gosh, I love being retired!

15. where are you? I ask because another favorite site, weatherunderground.com...
has a bunch of thunderstorms & tornado watches rolling in our direction, due to get here in about four hours.
if it's really loud the little Schnauzer will go batshit.
the cells seem to be lining up in a perfect north to south line....

16. western North Carolina, about 2.5 hours almost directly north of
Atlanta... southwest of Asheville.

Storms have passed -- so has the rain. I hope your little Schnauzer don't get upset!
