I am riding my bike 150 miles this weekend, and I seriously have not trained enough |
|
This is my 4th MS 150. It's the "Pedal the Plains" ride. 75 miles each day -- from Sioux Falls to Vermillion and back. I've done about 20-25% of the training I ordinarily do, and it's supposed to be 97 degrees.
As a result, the average speeds I'll be riding will be comparable to an 80 year old on a beach cruiser.

8. I'm starting to hydrate now |
|
Every day this week will be at least a gallon of water. I'm eschewing bike jerseys in favor of white athletic shirts made from that same sweat-wicking material. I'll bring the Camelback for water and two cage bottles for sport drink -- and gels...and Advil.

7. Thanks. The trick is not to think of each day as 75 miles. |
|
The trick is to remember there are stops every 10 miles or so -- ride, then stop, rest, eat, get some water & gatorade -- and repeat this until completed.

10. I don't think my butt could handle that many hours on a bike |
|
The rest plan should keep you fresh, but it can't help that issue.

4. i'm a bike rider, but i'd never want to spend that much time in the saddle on any day. |
|
when i'm in shape, my long week-end rides are 2.5 hours. by then, i'm over it and ready to do something else.
but to each their own.

6. It is a major behind-pain experience for several days afterward |
|
Ride day is usually a 6-7 hour experience, starting at 7AM.

That would do me in long before the distance. On a 70 degree day I could probably do 75 flat miles in one day but I'd be useless for the next week.
You're probably more accustomed to the heat. Have a great ride.
