7. That's kind of what I was thinking.
I don't see how they would not have noticed.

22. I don't imagine that. It says the mom is 17. I was a much less cautious
parent at 19 then I was at 28. Sometimes really horrific things happen, even to well meaning people. One of my dear friends had her 5 year old drown right in front of her. Let's not say "drugs" or "willfull neglect" until there is reason too. I really hate how we judge the misfortunes of others.

2. Oh my god.

Those poor babies. Both of them. I can't believe a puppy would have hurt out of aggression. He was probably just playing, never realizing how delicate the baby was.

And now the baby is dead, and they'll probably kill the puppy. :(

3. You should post that in GD
There are people there who think pit bulls are the ONLY breed of dogs that injure humans.

Wow... a Black Lab.

Actually, the only person who I know IRL to have been "mauled" by a dog was also a Black Lab.

11. Sad story
The baby was in a swing - the puppy was probably trying to play. It is puzzling that no one realized something was going on - it sounds like the parents were very young and maybe the pup bit somewhere vital before the baby began crying.

All speculation of course - but I had a friend years ago whose dog killed a child (horrible, horrible thing) and it was almost immediate because the first bite severed an artery.

13. The video that I saw this morning showed animal control putting the
puppy in a truck. It looked to be under 6 month old and probably still had those extremely sharp puppy teeth. My first thought was that maybe the puppy was trying to catch the object which kept swinging back and forth and inflicted a fatal injury to the baby before anyone realized what was happening. I suppose we'll find out more details later.

How terribly sad for the family.

12. Hmm. I'll wait for the autopsy results.

Hard to believe that the parents and others, who were present at the scene, didn't know their baby was being killed by a dog. Blaming the dog would be a good way to cover up a shaken baby death. As one who has been trained to investigate such things, I'm just sayin'

17. Bullshit. No way that a 7-week-old lab puppy killed a baby.
No way.

I deal with weimaraners all the time...no seven week old weimy would be able to kill a baby...They have tiny little milk teeth at that age.

Just NO WAY.

There's more to this story than is being told.

18. It is being reported
here that one of the adults in the house was the child's grandparent. Alos, being reported that the lab puppy has been euthanized. FWIW, the home is located in one of the more affluent areas of Tulsa.

23. Bad things...very bad things happen sometimes.
as I said upthread, I was a much better mom at 28, when my youngest was born then I was at 19. It is a very sad story but I am not going to crucify anyone until there is a reason to.

24. Seventeen is awfully young.
Puppies are harmless. Sleeping babies give overtired parents a chance to catch a break. I can see how this would be the train of thought. The combination of young parents + baby + puppy just didn't out this time, and regardless of HOW it happened, that mother is never going to get over it.

completely devastated. I don't think there's anything nefarious going on, just a terrible accident.

20. This hardly seems to make any sense.
A 6 week old puppy? That is a pretty tiny pup. How did it reach the child in the swing? How can a 6 week old pup maul anything?

This is just a tragic situation. So sad.

But, as the story pointed out, how did the parents not know?
