I've been out of CA for 8 years and I am STILL sick of this:
"EARTHQUAKE WEATHER!"

I'm listening to KFWB (L.A. news radio) online and this question was just posed to an expert:

"Is there such a thing as earthquake weather?"

Well, of course there is. Anecdotally.

But asking the question of an expert? Please. :banghead:

2. In So. Cali., yes. In No. Cali., it's cool, foggy weather.
LOL

3. And that's the more rational end of the spectrum.
Just wait for this evening's news, when they uncritically interview every rune-caster, entrail-gazer, and tealeaf reader for their take on predicting earthquakes. It's as if the Enlightenment never happened.

4. Can't. Breathe.

Sounds just like the midwest when there are super severe storms...

6. How are you doing, KW?
It was my wife's first quake too, so she was a bit unsettled, to say the least. I, naturally, totally faked calm insouciance, which she saw straight through in an instant.

7. I am freaked. It was not my first but is my strongest.
My husband called me from his office. He works in Brea, so he was a lot closer.

My MIL called to check on us too.

9. I was at home in Brea, too.
Our apartment building is mostly wood, though, so it simply flexed a bit. Can't see any visible damage to the complex, but I did hear something in our upstairs neighbor's apartment go thud. Nobody's home so I texted her at work to let her know.

5. Such B.S.
Same old garbage that our idiot local newscasters always bring up when they have nothing else to say. Someday we'll have a quake in the middle of a storm, and they'll be so caught up in "storm watch" that they won't know what to do.

12. And there will always be one guy in the yellow poncho
Standing in the middle of a burn area, just in case some house comes sliding down...

Sigh... I miss the news, you don't suppose they'll ever bring it back?

Not a chance. The fourth estate is dead.

13. I particularly like it when they send a crew out....
...to cover a puddle. "Look viewers: an actual occurrence of standing water. In the open. In CALIFORNIA!"

16. now, don't laugh at me bertha, but the day before the Northridge quake
I was sitting outside with friends, and said "feels like an earthquake is coming" - Perhaps because it was so damn hot and still on January 16 (but then again, that's not totally unheard of in LA, either).

Maybe people actually can tell, too, just like animals, but don't listen to themselves other than to say dumb stuff about weather.

PS - glad the talk with your boss went well :)

After the quake, I turned off AAR and turn on KFWB.

19. My favorite is live on location newcasts in total pitch darkness.
Can't see anything, and the reporter could be anywhere! Like on the Daily Show, just across the stage with a rear-projected backdrop. What is the value of being there?

Earthquake weather is hot and dry

well, it seems that way.

Northridge happened at 4:30 am in January, which disproves the whole thing.

5.4 quakes are not that uncommon, though.
