I work with a guy (the borderline sociopath I occasionally mention here and there in different threads) who has the same name as his father.

He signs everything (and refers to himself) as John Doe II.

In my business, our initials go on everything we touch so, for example, I write my initials of MT several times every day. The guy I mentioned above initials every single, f'n thing as JDII... as if there's some chance that someone will confuse his initials or name for his father who doesn't work for our company, or even anywhere near Boston.

I just find it pretentious, and completely unnecessary.

Is it some longing to be part of a royal family or something? :shrug:

1. LeftyKid has the same first name as my father and grandfather
but he goes by his middle name, my father goes by a nickname derived from his first name, and my grandfather went by the full first name. Since they all have different middle names (or none in my grandfather's case) nobody gets a junior or pretentious roman numerals.

What I mean is (with fake names, but you get the idea)

Grandfather= James Smith
Dad= James Joseph "Jimmy" Smith
LeftyKid= James Jeffrey Smith (goes by Jeffrey)

Everybody has their own distinct legal name. It just makes life easier that way.
