I, for a split second, forgot about today's "activity."
I am sure they will stop soon.

confession time: when I used to be afraid to fly, my biggest fear when visiting my bros in CA was that a massive earthquake would hit just as we were speeding up on the runway. It's amazing where the mind can go.

did you ever see that Steve Martin movie, "LA Story"? There's a great scene in it where the characters are at a restaurant eating and in the middle of the meal, an earthquake happens, and absolutely nobody in the entire restaurant is phased by the rumbling and shaking. They just continue talking as if nothing is happening. It's pretty damn funny.
We Californians are a hardy bunch. :D

did you know he was married to the woman who co-starred with him in LA Story........but then they later got divorced?
I guess that's in keeping with the LA lifestyle, too. :D
Sad, but true.

I guess his first job was at Disneyland, working in the little magic store. He rode his bicycle from Garden Grove to work every day.

I'm in the midwest. At least with a tornado, you get a warning and can take cover. Once it passes, it's done. No after effects.

Everything here is a long protracted thing. Fires...We will not even mention the week and a half of hell last October. Earthquakes...one big one and 3 brazillion little ones in a short period of time.
Breathe in breathe out breathe in breathe out.

I remember when my brother moved out there. He moved out to LA in 1992. He was just becoming moderately successful in his career and life when the Northridge quake hit. He woke up to see his refrigerator walking across the floor. One of his cats ran away (the other is now a skittish old lady) and his apartment building was deemed non livable. He was scared to death, wondering why he had moved in the first place and I spent about a week calming him down (he's pretty level headed) on the phone every night. It is a scary thing KW. I hope those aftershocks are over soon.
Love, Me

20. I've been through a couple tornadoes, but on that really comes to mind. |
|
We had so many warnings that I became complacent about them. But I would always set up the basement with things like a radio, batteries, shoes for my son and I, a cooler full of survival goods, etc. And there was a couch and TV down there if the power didn't go out.
One time, when both of us were in jammies, all the walls and windows started to shake and rattle. Scared me half to fucking death! I thought the whole place was going to turn into toothpicks at any second!
I ran across the house and grabbed my son by the seat of his pants and dragged him behind the basement door and slammed the door shut immediately.
I know it scared him, but I thought our lives were in immediate danger. I mentioned it here once and was admonished that I probably caused him to be afraid of storms and did a major disservice to him. Christ, at the time I thought I was saving his life.

22. Oh, I know. And the tornado did tear out half the block behind my house. |

We were without power for 3 days. So it's not like I pulled it outta my ass.
He truly knew I would never do anything to hurt him. So, screw anyone second guessing my motives as a mother in a crisis situation like that.
How are you doing? Still having aftershocks?
