Have your cats been rejecting their canned food lately? |
|
Something's wrong. The Nashville Cat has always been a bit hard to please, and I've had to rotate brands on a regular basis to keep her belly full. But I went to the Pet Smart a couple days ago and bought three separate brands of wet food, and both she and the tom cat have rejected almost every can I've opened for them.
The Nashville Cat and I have played this game for years, and I've always managed to stay ahead of her. But until now the tom cat has scarfed down everything I've put in front of him. For both of them to turn their noses up tells me it's not them- it's the food itself.
Any new recalls in the works? Any other kitties going through this?
I don't like the way this is going, especially because cat food is getting ridiculously expensive, and I don't want to just toss twenty bucks into the trash bin.

4. No, the opposite actually |
|
The two little fussbudgets are actually eating their canned stuff. They really like the tuna florentine stuff from Fancy Feast, and the Hannaford's store brand trout.

6. After 4 years of Kamere turning his nose up on every canned cat food in existence |
|
I found some samples of Whiskas Purrfectly FISH which comes in pouches. He LOVES it. He can hear me open a package from 100 feet away and flies into the kitchen to get it.
It comes in a box of 10 3 oz pouches for about $5.99. It consists of mostly white fish and tuna.

My kitteh lived outside year round for several years before he was abandoned, rescued and subsequently adopted by me. He has never turned his nose up at any wet food I've put in front of him in the last three years and wolfs it down voraciously.

8. yes, they're avoiding a lof of it. I buy 'high' quality wet food - |
|
stuff like Solid Gold, Wellness, TikiCat, etc. And they've refused almost all of the Wellness lately.
The two they continue to like are Solid Gold tuna, and Avoderm moist (oh my goodness they LOVE avoderm).
I will on occasion open a Fancy Feast and mix a little bit in with the other 'good-for-them' stuff b/c they love it, but Fancy Feast and the store brands have a lot of salt and crap in it - like eating a Big Mac every day... so they get a bit of a treat now and again.
Now, there is a feral who comes by every night, and I give him Friskies or Meow Mix. Some cans he just sniffs and walks away, as if it were bad.
I have been wondering this myself, because every single can of TikiCat they have refused in the past week. EVERY SINGLE CAN. And I have 7 cats; usually they are not all picky en masse, hence my suspicion.
