This is the first Olympics in my lifetime that I actually tried to watch every single event that was on tv. So, I watched so many sports I didn't know existed, and many I knew existed but would never watch if it weren't for a medal (or qualifying).

No sporting event remotely compares to the Olympics. In fact, you could get rid of 80% of the sports and it would still dominate anything else. Damn shame the networks simply can't afford adequate coverage. I felt like I needed 38 hour days the past 2 weeks.

31. The idea that Team GB can actually win gold medals.

Back in 1996 in the Atlanta games, Great Britain won exactly one gold medal. For rowing.

They've been winning more since then... but this year... 18 gold so far! There's only been one Olympics when Team GB won more medals than that... back in 1908 in London.

As it happens since 1896, USA has topped the gold medal tally for 15 Olympics, out of a total possible 25 Summer Olympics held since 1896. USA won't top the medal table for this Olympics, it's Chinas' all the way this time.
