17. I had hoped to avoid that joke. |

making fun of the death of Jesus , is not something I will do. I was a Christian for many years, but not any longer. Making fun of a religious icon of billions of people to spite Mel Gibson, is just tasteless.

It's not making fun of a religious icon. If some people get so emotionally invested in a historical figure that they can't take a harmless joke then the problem lies with them, not the joke teller.

20. Hey, I agree with you. I am a Christian, but I have an observation, |
|
anyway.
I remember the rock opera, "Jesus Christ Superstar." I really liked it. But alot of the fundies shit their pants cuz it ended with the crucifixion. They said it was not "Christian" because it stopped there, and did not show the resurrection.
I think this is actually a pretty good point. Doesn't Gibson's movie stop short of the crucifixion?
The whole point for Christians is the resurrection: He is the living Christ, who died for our sins. Easter should be the big holiday, not Christmas.
I have not seen this movie, and I have no desire to do so. But doesn't it stop short of resurrection?

|
I thought they went into the tomb and it was empty, but there was no resurrection in Matthew, the earliest Gospel.

25. The movie does not rely on one Gospel only, |
|
but sort of condenses and mashes them together. If Gibson had said it was based only one one Gospel, it would make a difference. But then, the film would not be getting all this attention.

There is no resurrection appearance in Mark. There is also no birth narrative in Mark.
There is no birth narrative in John, either.
Matthew, Luke, and John have resurrection appearances. Paul also speaks of having seen the resurrected Christ.

|
Doesn't Gibson's movie stop short of the crucifixion?
The entire movie is one, long, bloody march to Golgotha. The wedding at Canaa? The Sermon on the Mount? Fuggeddaboutit.
One reviewer called it "crucifixion porn." :P

45. That'd be about right. Pain pain de pain ditty pain. In more ways than |
|
you can imagine. I just came from seeing it. Just when you think they couldn't possibly do something else to the poor guy, then WHAM! do something else to him. It's gross, and I wonder if it will ultimately open people's eyes up to how ridiculous the story is from this point of view. Which undoubtedly, is sufferng, pain, suffering and pain.
It's gross. If I could place bets on the numbers of people who could not watch every frame of the film, I would, and make a fortune.

Moses and Jesus are hanging out one day. After they slammed back a couple o' brews, Jesus turns to Moses. "Yo, Mo you think you can still do that partin' the water deal?" Moses shrugs and says "I dunno. Should I give it a try?" "Go for it!" Jesus tells his friend.
Moses walks up the sea and raises his arms and sea parts!
"Woooo HOOOO! Look at that! I'm the MAN!" Moses boasts. "OK, pal your turn. Do that walk on water thing." Moses challenges Jesus.
Jesus headed to the water and began to walk. He gets about 10 feet away from the shore and all is looking good. Jesus turns to Moses and flashes a big smile. Back on the shore, Moses gives him the "thumbs up"! Suddenly, Jesus sinks right to the bottom.
Shocked, Jesus swims back to shore. Moses helps his buddy out of the sea and sat down with him in the sand.
"Jeeze, Jesus. What happened?" Moses asked
"I don't know, Moze. I was walking along just like before. Every thing was goin' good and then BLAM! I sunk right to the bottom. WHAT'S UP WITH THAT?!" a puzzled Jesus exclaimed.
The old friends sat for a while wondering what when wrong.
"Oh my DAD!" Jesus shouted slapping his hand to his forehead. "The nail holes."

55. I think He would enjoy it, actually. Look at what He's had to deal |
|
with for 2000 years, and He hasn't quit in disgust yet.
I expect He has an awesome sense of humor (I hear He avoids Sam Kinison if at all possible, but laughs it up with Lenny Bruce on a regular basis).
As a Christian, I've always believed Christ kinda liked the "man" part of His life. I sometimes think He may miss it on occasion...

It's been OP for about 20 years, but is heading for an impressive reprint run of 50,000. Not bad for the hallucenogenic ravings of a wacko, anti-Semitic nun.
Seriously, I hear in the a-s department, the movie has NOTHING on the book.
