1. I tend to think "nothing says asshole quite like a Hummer."
But that is just me. ;)

2. I think anyone who buys an SUV
and doesn't go off roading is lame.

I wonder the percentage of people who buy Hummers and take them on the dirt road or no road for that sake. I mean do people pay $50k or whatever the thing costs for a car and then get it all dinged up with the rocks flying everywhere. I doubt it. People will buy into anything.

3. I only know one person who uses his on his ranch. My sister in law's
father has one and it looks like crap from bouncing around on a hay ranch everyday. :hi:

4. As opposed to the person who does go off roading in an SUV
fucking up the woods for everybody else?

1/2 a dozen of one, 6 of another.

5. my grandfather uses one..
on his farm. In fact, I have to park my car by the road and let him come and pick me up, otherwise I'd never make it.

Not all off-roading is bad.

8. And not all SUVs are bad.
I own one right now and plan on buying another in a year or so.

9. There are old logging roads that can be driven on by an SUV
Why by a gas guzzling SUV to drive to and from work everyday.... that was my point.

17. Hey, Superfly, I have a beef with that...
First of all, this is me:

Now, before you rush to judgement, I want you to consider two things:

1) I am a responsible 4-wheeler. That involves following the code of "Tread Lightly" http://www.treadlightly.org. Furthermore, the 4x4 club to which I belong is responsible for trail clean-up activities (always removing more trash from the wilderness than you take in), locating and reporting abandoned/stolen vehicles, and supporting the local Search and Rescue unit.

2) We volunteer our services to help handicapped kids get into the wilderness. There is no way some of these kids would be able to get where they've been, in beautiful British Columbia, without our help. Imagine a kid with no legs, being able to tour around a nearly inaccessable lake area high in the mountains.

There are good 4-wheelers, Superfly. My experience is that they are in the majority.

7. I think "ASSHOLES"
The "Happy Jack" commercial pisses me off tremendously.

1) Ripping apart a doghouse to build a derby car
2) Did anyone notice the shape of the road, and the course he took? If I am not mistaken, it all forms a giant $ sign...

Later,
JM

10. Yeah I just saw one
with hot air balloons, and kids who were driving them but obviously could not afford an H2. (read spoiled brats) Also, do the assholes that buy these cars really think the world will stay that *pristine* with these gas-hogging, CO2 producing behemoths? These mofos weigh 8000 lbs for chrissakes! God help you if you are on the receiving end of a Hummer while driving a Mini Cooper.

Write to your senators -- tell them to close the business loophole for tax write offs on SUVS!!

and I asked her why and she said she'd feel safer. I said yeah you'd be safer in a tank too. Rediculous!

14. ANY vehicle is at a disadvantage against a Hummer ...
... a 12-year old from my kid's school was killed in a Chevy Suburban when someone in a Hummer talking on a cell phone ran a red light and hit them. Tragic.

18. Nah...get a Unimog (no joke, for those who think a hummer is small)

This $84,000 beast is no joke. It was originally built by Mercedes for the German military, and Freightliner is now selling them through their U.S. dealerships. They are apparently well known among the hard-core offroaders, but haven't yet caught on in mainstream USA. Dang thing's as big as a semi, and you can drive it with your regular class C license :eyes:

It's wacky. 12-speed push-button transmission (12-speeds in forward or reverse), turbodiesel, portal axles, completely waterproof. Ugly as sin.

But he loves it. He bought his surplus from the Luftwaffe, where it was used to plow snow from runways. He uses it around his farm, and occasional off-road excusrions.

His is a 1961 model, and it's exactly the same as a new one. Nothing significant has changed in the design in 40+ years, and most parts are interchangeable between years.

on edit: oh, I forgot...it's painted dayglo safety orange.

16. They just don't get it....
The "Happy Jack" commercial and the new one with Regis Philbin that suggests a Hummer is like a cruise ship are so OBVIOUS. The message is:

-It's all about ME!
-I have the right to trash the environment and endanger other people because driving a hummer is FUN!
-I'd don't have to follow the rules because I have a penis and I deserve to get my way!
-I don't care what other people think, but they will all think I am cool because I drive a Hummer!

12. It's obvious from the commercials that a'holes are the target market
Obvious except, perhaps, to those who buy them. But really, the guy who cheats in the race with his homemeade hummer, the shots of driving over pristine wilderness. "A-S-S-H-O-L-E, I'm an asshole."

13. You can't kill enough wildlife on the highway.
You need to get out there in the wild and squash the young and slow while they are in their homes and nests. Dig some deep ruts too while your at it and get some erosion started.

Why does the a**hole in CSI Miami drive a Hummer? What city gov. would justify that?

22. Even here in Calgary
There are lots of off-roading areas around here, but you know damn well that 90% of the SUVs don't even touch gravel. There's a Jeep Rubicon in my neighborhood that never even has dirt on it's undercarriage. Sometimes, though, I will see a Jeep or whatever completely encrusted with mud, with a happy-looking guy in it, and it makes me smile. I plan to get a (small) SUV soon, and first thing I'm heading for the logging roads.

23. I only ever saw one Hummer and that was one too many
However, there are more and more SUV's. I bicycle and I can tell you they either don't know how to drive or they just don't care since it isn't them that will be killed or maimed. They should simply not be allowed in the cities.
