When does snowboarding stop hurting?
I heard "the third time's the charm," and sure enough, my third trip out a couple of weeks ago was fun (my first trip this season). After a few practice runs on the lower slope at Jiminy Peak, I finished the day with three runs from the top, till my foot got too sore to continue (tongue misaligned in boot).

Well, Monday I went back. I figured, hell, I can actually do this now, so we went straight to the top of the mountain as soon as the lift opened. I rode until about 2, did three different trails, moved up a level, and got about 12-15 runs in). It was a sunny day, warm weather, good conditions, a perfect day!

But now I feel like I've been hit by a truck. I can't even pick up my legs to put them into my pants. Putting on a coat hurts. My freakin' neck muscles hurt! I was snowboarding, for Christ sake, not breakdancing! Why does my neck hurt? My thighs feel like a car is parked on them. Even my cuticles hurt. I work out, I'm in shape (supposedly), so what's up? Is this normal? If it hurts like this every time, well, I'm just going to have to start doing drugs or something, because it's too fun to quit now!

2. Never if you're brave
I boarded for years..even raced for a bit....sadly I haven't in about two or three years.

EIther way, it'll never stop as long as you push yourself....I've dislocated a shoulder, been knocked out, once my board hit me in the back of my head even (Imagine that streatch!)

3. I began in 88 and here's what's help me over the years:
Stretch like crazy before you go and between runs. Don't get talked over your head by other people. Don't let anything break your focus. Stop when you get tired. Take a break. A few beers sometimes helps loosen me up a bit. Stay away from trees at first. Stick to green or blue runs until you're sure of your self. Have advil on hand if any of the above fails to work.

4. Popped my S/B cherry yesterday
From the bunny hill to the half pipe by days end.

It husts less then falling on a skateboard, and it hurts WAY LESS then the 1st wakeboard outing in any given year.

Going next week too.

5. You're working muscle movements your body isn't used to
I started snowboarding about 6 years ago. Haven't done much of it over the past 3 years, though -- I'm certain that getting married has had something to do with that. ;-) But I can remember feeling sore after going when I was learning, and it wasn't always from falling.

When you're working your board, you're using your trunk muscles and legs an awful lot to carve your turns. Especially while you're learning, because you often tend to be a little choppier and not quite as fluid with your turns. As such, even if you're in decent shape, you're going to give some muscles a workout they're not used to.

I look at it like when I started mountain biking. I was running a lot back then, but riding a bike would absolutely kill my legs, turning them to rubber. The reason wasn't that I wasn't in shape -- but rather, that I wasn't in BIKING shape. My muscles just weren't used to the way they were being used.

8. I hope that's not a snowboarding term
I'm still new at this...don't know all the lingo, but that doesn't sound fun! Methinks, however, you're talking about a medical procedure, as if that maybe it's all cuz I'm old or something! Well...well...I resemble that remark!

But, yeah, you're probably right...I'm gonna hit 45 in about six weeks. I surfed for years, and did finally get that nice fluid feel to the turns, but not until my last few runs. And yes, it is mostly my trunk...my thighs and calves are worthless. I do mostly upper body stuff when I work out, in addition to league volleyball. But I guess that's nothing like trying to keep from falling off the side of a mountain for 6 hours!

10. A cheekspreader is when you catch an outside edge and tip onto
your ass so hard that you feel as though you have to take a crap, this feeling lasts about 10 to 15 minutes.
