So, anyone here got bar type event experience? Looking for advice

My buddy Jon and I want to go to Japan. And we were thinking since he's a DJ and I like to drink and we know shitloads of lounge and bar owners that we would have a night of some kind somewhere (Likely my roomate's lounge). Get as many people as we can and take a cut of the door or bar or however that works.
Maybe a halloween thing or something. My roomie charges $800 a night to rent out his lounge... so that is a chunk to invest. Especially since if we don't make up the difference we're further away from our goal.

Any advice for such a venture? Any ideas on what kind of returns we could expect?
