Even the Wilson sisters themselves are pretty much embarrassed now by that whole era of "Heart". If not the music itself, which was lightweight corporate cheese compared to their earlier stuff, but the image as dictated by the execs at Capitol records. Everything was shot deliberately to play up Nancy's physical attributes (granted, she was gorgeous) while at the same time trying to hide, and even distort Ann's appearance (too fat for MTV?)

After three albums in this incarnation, they pulled the plug, told Capitol to shove it, and went back to making music on their own terms, first as "The Lovemongers" - not caring if anyone outside of the Seattle area ever heard it or not, but scoring an unexpected hit when their cover of Led Zeppelin's "Battle of Evermore" was included on the Singles soundtrack in the 1990's along with all the next generation of Seattle talent, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Alice In Chains, etc. Later they would bring back the name "Heart". Probably had to clear up some legal disputes over who had the rights to the name and the music, though you never had to look any further than any of their classic album covers to know who was the "Heart" of Heart. The talents of Roger Fisher, Steve Fossen, Michael Derosier, Howard Leese, Mark Andes, Denny Carmassi, and anyone who has played along side them in the more recent tours notwithstanding.

Heart really IS Ann & Nancy.

I'm a big fan of Heart, and what Ann and Nancy achieved as "pioneers" of women leading a hard rock band. I was merely commenting on what they have said about the 80's videos, music, and manufactured image themselves in various interviews, and in the VH1 Behind the Music episode.

Musically, I prefer the original lineup. It's almost like their version of the Roth vs Hagar thing with Van Halen. The keyboard drenched 80's commercial stuff just doesn't hold up as well over time.
