Dear Gawd, I want to smoke so friggin bad right now.
I'm smoke-free for 21 days today, and I'm feeling the stress right about now. Tomorrow is probably going to be way worse too.

2. No, tomorrow is going to be stressful. Let's just say that my work is effected by the hurricane and
things aren't exactly runnin so smoothly right now. Not to mention my own personal crap going on, perfect timing. I can't exactly crack open a drink either. Grrrrr.

ride it out - do something to get your mind off of it....these cravings don't last long. Think of it as a battle of wills - you against that voice in your head trying to lead you down the wrong path. Fight it!!! You can do it, each day without a cig is another win for you. Yes INDEED!

PS. Nickster if you think you're gonna light one up don't do it and get you some nicotine gum

4. I really didn't want to get hooked on the gum. I'll make it, I'm a stubborn bastard, I just need
some other way to cope with stress and my smokes were always the "release". I'm thinking of just going to sleep since I think tomorrow is going to be a long day.

5. I use the gum as a last defense
for example, I was recently sent on a work TDY to a CIGARETTE PLANT! My word. :o

6. Ouch. That would suck! But that would be God's way of screwing with me, sending me to a cig plant.
Alright, I'm going to go to sleep. I'll think about getting some gum, I guess having it as a backup isnt such a bad idea. Thanks.

9. well what I did was
if I broke down and said I'M GOING TO SMOKE A CIGARETTE, I went and got gum instead. If I thought I was going to be stressed in a situation where I would definitely give in an smoke, I'd get some gum ahead of time. I no longer need gum or smokes! :D

7. I get that way too, but it passes....
everyone who quits gets the urge once in a while.

I'll pass if you just hang on. And the urges get further and further apart and easier to deal with. Find something noncaloric to chew on if it helps. One reason we gain weight when we give it up is dealing with that oral fixation by eating everything in sight.

(And don't worry about getting hooked on the gum-- part of the deal is that it's so nasty it turns you off from anything remotely reminding you of tobacco.)

8. Only need to beat the monkeys back for 120 seconds
That's a lot of monkeys but you have a free hand 'cos you're NOT SMOKING!

It really does get better. One day you really won't think about it for a whole hour-- it was a couple months for me-- I've heard up to four months of bad monkeys flying around your head (and they're smoking) but just don't smoke. It will get better.

If your stoppage experience was anything like mine you give in a couple times. That fucks it up so please don't.

It's ok if you do, it just feeds the monkeys for a few more weeks.

Booze of any sort makes it hard-- no advice on that one.

Best wishes really-- I'm off those satan-cock death sticks for nine months now. Gained 20 pounds, lost ten, calculated savings frugally then blew it on something else, whatever. Just don't smoke for 120 seconds. Then do it again.

11. I have been smoke free for almost 3 months. It gets much, much easier in the days
to come. If you feel a grave go to the quitnet.com and log in and ask for help. There is nothing like a forum filled with new quitters to keep you honest. Plus by the time you have finished chatting with them your crave is gone.

Or go for a walk every time you would have a cigarette. That is what I did. Best wishes on a very good quit you got going there.
