Anybody Do the Renaissance Faires?
We did our first one last October at the biggest one there is. The one in Plantersville. We had SO much fun. I have made the costumes and am about to buy the tickets. It's my vacation each year. I bring my teenaged kids with me, because my custom is they need to be old enough to handle the craziness there! :D

The one down in Plantersville, TX has loads of fun customs, like bringing homemade LOKI and playing drums each night round the campfire.
Watching the Fire Eaters, dressing up in the morning after camping all night. Watching the awesome shows (ded bob) and talking to the actors and actresses along the way during the faire, and eating the BIG turkey legs and loaded baked potatoes...and having a lil beer too...

That's what I love...anyone else love this stuff?

1. I want to!
I never have... but I suspect those might be my people...! (I spin my own yarn and once made my kids some shoes out of deerhide.)

4. I think you'd love it then
most every state has one or more. There's one during the spring in TX and one in the fall(Plantersville) and we choose the one in the fall because it is so much cooler and nicer down here to camp outside in.

I sure hope you google it and go to one! It's fun!

10.  We have a shortage of those.
Tons of mead wenches and not hardly ANY beer wenches. Fairies get to drink anything, as we poof it into existence, or we just claim it's fairy dust..but it's all the same in the end. Good Fun!

Here's a link to what we go to..

19. I have done the one in Plantersville for years....
I have pictures of my daughter (now 18) at the faire over the years and a series of glittered hand prints from the Fairy Luna (starting at age 3). I went when you could get in for free if you wore a costume and know many of the folks that work it. The highlight of my seasonal calendar.

23. we go to Scarborough Faire in Waxahachie TX every spring. As close to
the beginning of Faire as possible, as it gets hot fast here.

I enjoy it throughly.

22. LOL. It wasn't just you.
Margaret Cho once said that you will run into the exact same people at Trek conventions, Renaissance Faires, and leather bars.

Truer words were never spoken.

26. I use to be in the SCA
but haven't done any of that since I was 18. I worked on fantasy film and do fantasy art for a living, so I have enough of that sort of stuff in my life as it is. But it was fun when I was a kid.

27. Yep. As often as is possible.
Since husband cut his hair I have to get him a new outfit for this falls's NC Ren Fest; but I have three chemises and two skirts and four corsets...it's adddicting. The little one is gonna need a new outfit too. I am excited to go; since our fair is on for a month and a half..lots of theme weekends. They expanded the grounds year before last, so I'm excited to see what acts they came up with this time.

29. Not in a couple of years.
Used to be twice-annually here in Georgia, then cut back to once a year.

But it's usually hot 'n' sticky, and full of the same ol' same ol'. I've had my fill of authentic medieval funnel cakes, and go mainly for the birds and big cats shows. A little hammered dulcimer goes a long way.
