My new health plan
Edited on Wed Feb-25-04 04:22 PM by felonious thunk
Ok, so I just received details of my new health care plan. I'll summarize it as:
Less choice on doctors
Higher payments by me
Lower coverage by them

Golly gee, I'm sure glad that the horrible government didn't start insuring me, and limit my choices! This insurance company asshole actually had the gaul to make it sound like the doctors are the bad guys. Dick. Everything in this plan is set up to encourage you to never go to the doctor.

1. I got the same treatment from my employer.
Lower benefits, higher out of pocket costs. I work for the government, too! :o

2. I don't blame my employer
I work for a small business and I know costs are going up. I blame the insurance company. Here's two good lines from this meeting:

"Now, we don't have any pediatricians in the plan currently, so you'll have to pay the out of network charges for the kids right now, but we should have some pediatricians very soon."

"If your doctor isn't in the plan, let him know you'd like him to be. We just can't keep paying these fees the doctors want to charge us or we won't eat! The doctors hesitate to join our plan, because we want to pay them less than they are used to."

Fucking prick.

3. I get to blame George W. Bush.
I work for the state of Texas, and as a direct result of him and his policies, our economy is for shit. And, since us employees and our benefits cost too much, they had to be cut. :grr:

I had the "choice" of Blue Cross or an HMO (after my HMO got terminated - too expensive). The HMO has ZERO doctors in the Austin city limits. Thanks for the "choice".

5. I went from a plan with 90% local participation
to a plan with 60% local participation. But they're going to get those other doctors on the plan, just as soon as we all put pressure on the doctors to join!

11. I guess all you can do is hunker down and pray that the rumors are true.
Then Texas Republicans will be so embarrassed, maybe there will be a change in order. Hopefully.

4. Oh, man
IMHO, the only health plan worth anything these days is a non-profit. I work for one, and we give excellent coverage.

In fact, I think we could fix most of our health care problems by 1) requiring uniform paperwork so that the hospital business office doesn't have to employ 100 people to process paper, and 2) require health care providers/insurers to operate as non-profits. If you took the profit motive out, HMO's would be in business to give people health care.

6. As a former hospital clerk, I have to agree with you.
However, even with uniform paperwork, you still have the problem of non-uniform coverage. Doctors and nurses have to spend hours on the phone with insurers confirming diagnoses and treatments and getting preapproval for procedures, etc.

7. It's so wrong that insurance companies profit of my health
I just don't even know how else to say it. I don't mind the doctor making a living off my health care, or anyone that works to help sick people. But people who live off gambling that I a) not get sick or b) get sick and do nothing about it - is just wrong on so many different levels it's sickening.
