Will it be so bad if I let them finish these bags off, then try to find a senior food my older cat likes and a kitten food for Zelda?

7. The older one is almost 17...
Seems like he's earned the right to eat whatever he damn well pleases.

I'm hoping the little one can make up any extra fat she needs with extra table scraps...

4. If you free feed the kittens the senior food, they'll be fine, They'll eat more of it than of
kitten food, to get enough protein and fat, but they'll be fine. Otoh, the kitten food may be too rich, too fatty for the senior. Might have too much protein, too, which can be hard on the liver and kidneys. Still, probably won't be too bad temporarily, but I wouldn't make it her regular food.

8. I thought I'd try switching him to the senior variety of the kitten food brand...
Maybe there's some flavoring they use that he likes.

5. How's senior kitty weight-wise?
Edited on Sun Aug-31-08 11:51 PM by LeftyMom
I've actually had good luck feeding kitten food to senior cats, since they tend to eat less and get skinny on me and they need the calories. OTOH, senior cat food would be better for older kitties who run to fat.

6. He's got a little tummy,
but I kind of view it as middle-age paunch, y'know?

He's not as active as he once was, but he'll still give the Feline Flyer a few bats every day. Oh, and when I have chicken, which is pretty frequently, he has to have some.

10. Here:
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=243&topic_id=4388&mesg_id=4388

As long as the food:

isn't feed grade, but includes USDA ingredients instead

Doesn't contain corn (of any kind), brewer's rice, wheat , or animal by-products

and,

contains meat (not meat by-products) as the first and second ingredients, as well as organ meat and added taurine, all should be OK.
